Absolutely get it. Hopefully it will make the difference between getting a job or not during these dark days. When you do get a job it will also simplify your type rating oral.

I'm doing the same. Waiting on VA approval for my 737 type rating. I don't see this as pay for training situation. I don't see paying for a ATP is really no different from paying for private, instrument, commercial, etc. It was that way for decades. It will make you stand out from others. Doesn't guarantee you a job but shows you put in the effort to exceed the minimum requirements if you go 135.

Bit of an old thread revival, but did the approval come through? Mind sharing where you went and thoughts? Have the hours and debating getting a CTP/Type combo somewhere, have some GI to burn.

In today's market, definitely do it. One more box checked is nothing but a good thing. I did my ATP/737 type back in '16 with FTI in Miami and they were great. Not sure their offers now, but I did the accelerated, 1 week course. CBTs before you go, Day 1 systems review and test, 6 sims, then check. Ran me $8900, plus hotel, rental car, and airfare of course.

To close the loop on this. I ended up doing the ATP on my own dime. After finishing the written and sitting there with the time and not following it through to the end, felt kind of half-assed to me.
Back to teaching until hiring resumes somewhere. |
