I have experience in all operations including low cost, cargo and VIP. I have flown over all continents except Antarctica. I have conducted polar operations. The only thing I don't have is PIC time. I only have about 200 hours. With a non-immigrant visa, I hope I can get into one of the majors. But if this does not happen, I have a very high probability of finding a job in one of the regional airlines , the information you have provided. I started emailing airlines. Kalitta replied that a green card or The US passport is a must. Thank you for your suggested services, information and advices. Stay Safe
I am in much the same situation - also plenty of experience, but not in the left seat. I am also about to obtain the green card and evaluating the options. At the moment I figured that the chances of making one of the majors are not none, but are also not great. What adds to my "problem" is that I have not flown for 1.5 years now - and it will probably be 2 by the time I will be able to apply... Anyone has any info on how airlines go about that - or the lack of recency? I am current and FAA type rated, just not really recent...

Regionals, at least some of them, will still hire you (you probably want to do some GA for currency to prepare for training, you'll be behind on day one if you're rusty).

US majors for the most part do not hire non-current pilots although I know exceptions were made for retiring senior military officers because airlines value their experience and the competitive process to become a senior officer in the first place. Airlines also know that most senior officers do not have the opportunity to stay current.

So you'd probably need to start with regionals (but apply for any major if you meet their eligibility requirements).

Thanks for your reply. Kind of what I expected. This brings me to another question: how much is GA regency actually worth? Is it something that would improve my chances of landing a job…? On paper I am still current (I’ve been in the sim every few months keeping my A320 rating current) just that I haven’t flown an actual aircraft for a while…

Re. Green Card vs. Visa...

1. US employers cannot legally discriminate against non-citizens who have permanent right to work. I know that applies to green card holders, and assume it applies to at least some visas as well (some visas are obviously restricted by design). You might want to research that or just ask an immigration lawyer to be safe.

2. I can understand why airlines might prefer a green card over a visa which is not permanent... they don't want to invest in a lot of training and then have your visa eligibility rescinded for whatever reason.

So yes they can legally hire you, but they might or might not be able to legally discriminate against your visa status, and you need to find the answer to that.
Some companies, like Kalitta, require citizenship, i believe this has to do with their military contracts.

Also USPS contracts used to require not only citizenship, but recent physical residence in the US (only exception was for being overseas on USG business).

Most majors used to specify some amount of recent flight experience, something like 100 hours in 12 months or 200 in 24 months.

Piston GA flight experience isn't worth much to majors in and of itself, but in many cases it will satisfy their minimum recency requirements if the rest of your background is good. IIRC one of them may have wanted recent turbine time, but not sure. They're a;; different, check out their websites for details.
