The FBI (and other agencies) maintain a database with all federal, international, state, and local convictions. They copy this data from the various authorities. Basically the FBI check for airline pilots will be a search of this database. They may also run your name by "other agencies" to see if the other agencies have anything strange on you...this would be especially applicable to foreign nationals, naturalized citizens, or US citizens who have spent time abroad.

The thing to remember is that even if your local/state record gets expunged or sealed...the FBI has a copy, and there is no reason that they would delete THEIR copy since it is used for intelligence and national security purposes.

Ok so my buddy doesnt have a name and the opportunity to create one isnt open yet so Im asking for him.. he got arrested a few years ago for getting into a fight... everything got dropped. He just turned 18 and wants to know if that kind of stuff would ever show up on a criminal background check for an airline.

Unlikely to show up on a background check, but never say never. At the interview they may ask if you were ever arrested for anything...he would probably want to fess up.

Since it was prior to age 18 no airline will be too concerned with something like that, unless there is a history of problems.

Replace "DUI" with "drug habit," and you can be the mayor of DC!

What about employment history? Do you have to put every single little place you worked for even if it was brief or is it ok just as long as you've documented the past 10 years with no gaps?
