Recs can be used to weight your app for an interview, used in the hiring decision or both. Many airlines allow you to submit external recs... you should do that, recommendations from other pilots will always count for something even if they don't work for the company you're applying to. Key hot topics to address in recs are usually: safety, customer engagement, problem solving, and pilot ability. External recs should include contact info. |
Holding a bachelor degree ain't what it used to be. That requirement is falling fast. It was required. Now it's preferred.
It used to be said that if the guy next to you had one, and you didn't, you couldn't compete. The degree is no longer the deciding factor. |
This thread is a great find, as me too am much in the same situation.
Close to 7000 hours about 50/50 on wide and narrow body Airbus and 700hrs crj as well as a masters degree. The catch: zero TPIC and all of that flying was done abroad (Europe/middle east). Currently I am flying 320 in the Middle East but we wanna come home eventually. Based on what was said above I should be able to get a shot at the majors, however I wonder how I would schedule the interview form a organizational point of view. How much lead time is normally given (we get the chance to bid for leave once a year here). Do any of the majors offer remote interview (I.e. over Skype)? I know some of the regionals do (air Wisconsin) and would love to know if people are aware of any others that might be doing that. Be it regional or major. Many thanks! Delta dropped the degree requirement.

I'm guessing they did that for flexibility in case they get desperate, or for affirmative action reasons. Doesn't mean they're desperate yet... |

That doesn't mean their competitive stats now = GED.

No major will allow you to interview over the internet, you have to show up in person. Getting an interview invite from a major is a potential life-changing event, so I would plan accordingly (i.e. do whatever it takes to make it to the interview). You’ll have at least a couple weeks notice. Good luck.
I see. I guess one could argue that if a major eventually lets you flow from a regional whom you did an interview over the phone/Skype with the indirectly do though… but then again I guess you’ve had to prove yourself at the regional over the years until you flow. Does anyone know of any other regionals that DO remote interviews? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
