General Discharge Under Honorable Conditions
#11
It’s clear you feel guilty about this, and while I personally think that says good things about you, to the 94% of US citizens WHO HAVE NEVER SERVED it’s not going to make a rat’s @$$ worth of difference. Do what you feel like you should do with reenlisting or Reserve time to make you feel good about yourself but I doubt the HR driven hiring folks will know or care about the difference between honorable discharge and general under honorable conditions.
They expect officers to have an H. In this day and age, they also would expect enlisted to have an H. Years ago it was normal for junior enlisted to get an GUH, but anyone who got out in this century would have been given an H unless there was some issue.
I think the OP can ultimately get a major job, but he'll have to address this carefully (get professional interview prep, from someone familiar with mil). What's on the DD-214 might be significant.
Regionals won't care, unless something on the DD-214 hints at felony.

The majors know and do care, at least the first/second tier.
