I'm planning on having a new email address for job hunting and work related correspondence.
My top choices are outlook.com and gmail
Pros/cons?
Any other services you recommend?
How about username? On one hand, I lean towards something close to my full name like [email protected], but on the other hand, and for privacy and security reasons it is not recommended to do so. Sure this email would be only for job purposes, yet spam is very easy to sneak.
Any ideas?
Thanks a million

I see gmail as more popular for personal emails.
For business, don’t try to get cute on usernames. You are going to get spam no matter how you go.
I like your name or an abbreviation of your name (such as first initial, middle initial, last name.)

Yes, use your name or some professional looking derivative for professional activity.
[email protected] does not come off as professional at all.
I have two main emails, one for friends, family, banks, and professional activities like job hunting, alumni stuff, etc.
Another for all other activity such as online shopping, getting quotes from the vendors, etc. This one gets a lot more spam.
One is gmail, the other yahoo, just in case one service provider were to shut down or experience technical issues. I use gmail for the professional account since "yahoo" sounds goofy to begin with.
While outlook sounds maybe a hair more professional than google, it's clunky to use and probably requires a subscription of some sort. Countless people use google for their main professional email including small business owners.

Gmail got me a legacy job (back when it wasn't quite so easy).
You can also setup your own domain, there are services for that. That's what my brother does, but he's an IT contractor.
Jon J Doe => [email protected] (.org, .dev, etc)
Common last names are all taken I'm sure, but you could probably come up with something, especially if you use a less-common top level. I would avoid top levels that belong to foriegn countries, looks spammy. Fringe benefit, you can use it for other family members too. Downside, you have to keep paying for the subscription forever if you want to keep the email addy.

I got an aol address when it cost money on dial up, 3 decades ago. It is free now. What it screams is I am old. I take that as a badge of honor.

Free only looks cheap if you do something not so professional like [email protected]
If you do something like [email protected] (xyz being your initials or first 3 of your last name ) is perfectly fine.
You’ve made an email just for that application and their communications are not going into your junk box at your regular account.
