Default Previous Employment Records

I was wondering how to get a copy of my records from my previous employer. They have promised to send them for the last 2 months but they never show. I would like to know what is on them. They were unhappy that I left, even though I stayed 7 months longer than my verbal commitment to them.

That's going to depend on the employer and which records you're talking about. If you're talking about your personnel file (kept within HR) they may have a policy not to furnish copies. You are entitled to view them - but you may have to make a trip to HR.

If you're talking about training records, then I would suggest talking to whoever is the "keeper" of the training files. Often times these are separate from the HR files - again, depends on the employer. Talk to the person who handles the training files and ask NICELY how you can obtain a copy. They may even be able to email it to you. Depends on the employer and the type of record keeping system they use.

Hope this helps!
