Tolerance in post 9/11
Hi, I have no flying experience but have wanted to do recreational flying for a long time. I知 half Middle Eastern and half Russian. I don稚 look Middle Eastern, but I do have a Muslim sounding name. I知 about to start flight training to earn a PPL, but I知 worried that my background will cause a scare. I want to know how tolerant flight schools and flight instructors are. I知 assuming they池e cool people, since it does take a fair amount to cognition to operate an aircraft. Other than that, I a US born citizen, perfect driving record, and no criminal history.

I wouldn't expect any issues at all. I work along side a Muslim and he is one of my best friends and an excellent flight instructor. He never had any issues, nor did any of his friends.
If you did get any, it would be a very isolated case and just as much as any one of any minority would get.
Good luck in your training.

It should not cause any problems at all, no more so then grabbing a gallon of milk at the local grocery store. They will check your citizenship but thats a requirement for EVERYONE undergoing flight training, even if your name was Joe "Born in the USA" America. Good luck and let us know how your training progresses should you catch the aviation bug!

In aviation just like any other field, you will meet some truly wonderful and great individuals, and also you will meet some (i will let the reader use their imagination here) people. I am a native of Sri Lanka and in my short (2.5 years) GA aviation life I have met some truly great people. I have also had the misfortune to meet a couple of individuals that I truly hope never to meet. The good news is that I can only recall 2 such individuals, the rest hundreds have been just fine. So in conclusion, you will meet both good and bad people no matter what your racial background or ethnicity is. I hope you are smart enough not to let it bother you.
