Default "Safety Sensitive Position"

One of the addendum questions for Eagle's airline app page asks if "Have you held a safety sensitive job function subject to Department of Transportation drug and/or alcohol rules in the past five (5) years?"

I am a CFI... does that count as a safety sensitive job that I have to be subject to DOT drug/alcohol rules?

Did the 8 hour bottle to throttle rule apply to you as a cfi?

Yes. But does that make it a "safety sensitive" position?

Generally speaking, such question refers to programs that fall under mandated DOT drug and alcohol testing and control programs. Commercial truck/transport driving, air carrier operations, railroad ops, etc.

If you weren't part of a mandated testing program that has a DOT approved program administrator, I would personally answer "no".

+1.

Unless you were subject to DOT testing (this does NOT include company or insurance testing) the answer is no.

It goes without saying that you are a pilot and that your job relates to safety, so that alone doesn't qualify.

That's not relevant in this.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the input. I'll leave it as "No" on my application.
