Logbook error corrections
 
So i had a couple questions on some logbook errors ive made over time. I decided to buy a second logbook after finishing my training, so that i could have a training logbook and a professional logbook, separating the two times of my life. With that said i made a silly error of not carrying over the times (ignorance) to my NEW logbook. So i have a second logbook starting from 0 errors. Any suggestions on how to fix this? I plan on a regional airline eventually so keeping that in mind. Secondly, I've heard of white out and lining out errors. Which do 121 airlines prefer? Thanks in advance!

Also, if you do have an error early on in your logbook, how do you fix that over 5+ pages of entries? I.E., 2 hour error of X-C time entry, but then ive calculated 5+ pages of times without that time entered

Simple fix.

On one empty line simply put todays date and correct all the times across the columns. You could even put in 300 hours of SE time and it would be ok. Add up the lines as you would any page and you are done.

In the remarks simply write correction and appropriate details. As long as you have any way to back it up it will be a non issue and a clean, professional fix in your logbook.

I will echo the sarge..... do a one line entry of your first log entries, and just annotate it as such in the remarks. FWIW... I lost EVERYTHING in a natural disaster in 2005, including my military flight records.... since that time in interviewed for...6 jobs....was offered four... worked at three of them... and was turned down at 2... and NEVER was my recreation questioned. In my case I contacted the FSDO and got their advice, did exactly as they requested and it has never been an issue. Not saying for some companies it wouldnt be... but it has not been for me.

And if you do make any mistakes in the future, cross it out with a single line & your initials then input the correct data.

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but Herc, I have a student who lost his training logbook/headset/certificates due to vehicle theft. He got replacement certificates and a new logbook, but he and I are still wondering how to handle the situation regarding re-logging old flights and endorsements. I advised him to seek out his old instructor(s) and copy their logbook entries and ask for endorsements to be re-written. Lucky for him, his old instructors are still around and some of his flight training is documented electronically. I also told him to contact the FSDO and maybe AOPA for additional advice. Can you provide any advice or tips that I can pass along to him?

It's comforting to know I'm not the only one with the same problem! I have two questions...When I finished flight school I ended up totaling the last page with entries in my small logbook and transitioned to a "master logbook." Thus, leaving half a page with entries and totals tallied at the bottom. In order for me to show the corrected new total times, should I go to the next page and make the corrections?

Second, while attending a part 141 school they counted my sim time as total time. Now that I am transitioning to an electronic logbook would it be a good idea to go ahead and subtract this time from my total time?

First question, what I did was just draw one line through my totals and wrote the new times beneath them very neatly. I put an explanation in the remarks section.

Second, for neatness, yes you can just take the sim time out of the total time and have a simulator section. Word of caution, I think 141 schools count the sim time in the total time so you can meet time requirements for certain certificates. IF that is the case, it may look like you didn't have enough total time to take a check ride.

Thanks for all the replies guys.... going through my logbooks with a comb i noticed another error. I failed my CFI-A intial but there was never a logbook entry. I'm sure i wasn't real excited about my logbook at that time (obviously). What should i do? Make an entry? What do i do about the date? If it was some random flight I'd say who cares and ignore it... but this is obviously a big one that needs to be in there

Log the flight in your next open line with the appropriate date. In the remarks write "Late Entry" and whatever else youd like. You dont have to write CFI Ride or failed ride or anything else you do not want to. Its on your pria, they know you failed so you dont have to reference that in your logbook if you do not want.

The Marine Corps likes to keep logbooks of everything. "Nothing new or unusual to report" written 400 times in a row over the course of 6 months. They have guidance for every possible logbook error/variation.

Since their are many errors in my log book over the years, can't I just do Logbook Pro and use that for a interview? Or could I just make a 1 line correction on the last page using my electronic book numbers without going back and finding each error?
