AIR Inc/Aeroservice Career Fairs
 
I was researching these two career fairs. I had a few questions.
1. Air Inc charges a fee is it worth it?
2. How many people are typically hired at these types of events? (or is more of a money making event?)
3. Why is Aeroservice's Career fair free? (Selling something?)
4. I read that at the Aeroservice Career fair that some companies drug test, interview and class is as early as the next Monday. What is the odds of this really happening?
5. Which one has more companies attending?
6 Which one are more people hired from?
7. Are there many international companies at these events?

My Experience with Aeroservice
 
I attended 2 or 3 careers fair at Aeroservice in Miami, and was never impressed.
They are a training provider, offering types on mid/large transport, their booklets raves how a type rating would greatly accelerate the career of a 600/800 hour pilots, that really set the tone..
Some of the company they advertised were going to be present never showed up, or weren’t' hiring, I was asked by 2 different outfit if I was willing to pay for my F/E ticket....
I know of a few people that did get interviews as the result of the job fair, ( but had internal Rac.), and it is a way to meet with the recruiters!
Last i attended had a lot of Polar crews, so the spot with the heavies were "taken", but if you a have free traveling and you are not doing anything on that day, its worth the shot!

Anyone go to the AIR,inc fair this month? I will be going to ATL next month because AirTran,CAL,FedEX, and UPS all will be there. I would think meeting the respective recruiters has to be worth it. For a non-member that's only 42.50 per airline!!! I'll let you know how it goes! - BCD

1. = Air Inc's fee is worth it if you meet the right people or get hired. If airlines that you are interested in will be there then it is worth a shot. Not that I am in the camp that likes Kit and gang, but it is a venue that can be benefecial to your career.

2. Difficult to say. Certainly hiring takes place. Each one is a little different though. AeroServices targets more of the freight and commuter market, while Air Inc. is more of the Major/LCC/Fractional market.

3. AeroServices is free because, " they want to give something back to the aviation community ". That quote directly from the President when I asked that question to him. To be honest, I didn't have a high opinion of AeroServices until I went to a career fair earlier this year as a presenter. They aren't a state of the art facility with the newest sims or flashy decor. They are a provider for more of the second tear carriers in the States as well as Latin and South America. I walked away with a much higher opinion of the facility and the people who run it. They still stand to gain from having the event, either through individual pilots buying some sim prep time or entire type rating as well as through more exposure of their company as a training provider. Smart business if you ask me.

4. When I was there companies were hiring on the spot.

5. About equal, maybe an edge to Air Inc.

6. Don't know

7. Cathay Pacific goes to both. Emirates has been at both. Air India was as Air Inc, but probably won't go back as it wasn't what they expected. Direct Personnel was at AeroServices.

If you want to get hired by a major or national US carrier, go to Air,Inc. If you want to get hired by a charter, freight-dog, unaffiliated regional or foreign airline (mostly LatinAmerica/Caribbean), then go to AeroServices.

Went to AirInc yesterday in ATL. Just go to the job fair in the afternoon on Saturday if you go - nobody told me this and I sat around all day, and like Kit said "98% you've heard before - but 2% just may help". AirInc does have alot of information available - Alot - mostly in books that they have available for purchase outside the conference room and on-line. But the real reason to go is to meet the recruiters that are going to be there. So next time it comes to your area - just show up around 3:30 and pay your money and straighten your tie!! - Ya'll be good - BCD

Did you see any hiring going on? Were the majors swamped with people? Did you carry generic resumes, or create ones for the companies that you knew would be there? Did you think it was worth it?
I am planning on attending the Air Inc in Dallas in Jan.

FDX, UPS, and CAL were swamped...the others not so much. I made resumes for each airline I was interested in and a few generic ones just in case(which I never used). There was no 'active' hiring going on that I saw there. Was it worth it? Hard to tell. If I get a call in the next few weeks, I'll answer yes and let you know.

I am planning on attending the Air Inc in Dallas in Jan.

Spent 30 - 40 mins in line for FedEx and UPS. 15 for AirTran because they had about 8 - 10 people taking resumes! CAL was about 3 hours if you took a number late - they wanted to spend more time with people I guess.
No extensve interviews that I saw going on and no hiring. I also made company specific resumes and a few generic. It's worth it to go in the afternoon, if there are people there you want to meet!! - BCD
