PIC Question

I was wondering if there are any chances for SIC to log time as PIC during a flight.

Is the captain PIC of the aircraft for the entire trip or are there any normal circumstances during flight that the SIC would be able to log PIC time?

Thank you

Logging PIC is not as important as BEING PIC. Employers want PIC time because it shows that the applicant has not only been part of the decision making process, but the ultimate one responsible for those actions.

In my opinion, if you have to ask the question of if you should log it, you shouldn't, because you aren't building the PIC experience that the logbook is reflecting.

Again, just my opinion.

PIC Question

1. Use the search function. There are several threads on this same topic already.

2. Your question is too vague. It depends on several factors: type of operation, type of plane, etc

Logging PIC can be useful towards acquiring the aeronautical experience requirements of the ATP cert. There are circumstances where you can log PIC as sole manipulator while flying as SIC (FAR 61.51).

For employment purposes, they are generally looking for time where you actually were the PIC (signed for the airplane). This is particularly true for turbine jobs where TPIC is a requirement.

so SIC can legally and technically log PIC time under certain circumstances?

thank you for enlightenment to use the infamous search function :)

to help you with my vague question, the operation is scheduled commercial passenger airline part 121 and aircraft would be ERJ 145

Whats your take on that?

No. Not in Part 121 Operations. The company flight release lists a PIC and the SIC is NOT IT.

Now in reality...YOUR log book is YOUR log book... you can log anything you so desire, but you better be able to explain how you logged PIC time in ERJ145 while your only job with the company was as an FO.... just and example.

Yes, but it's a different kind of PIC, and most employers will not want you to claim it to meet hiring mins.

Hopefully this posting is "putting us on" after several very lengthy threads on exactly the same subject and almost the exact same question.

Gcpilot....check the pages of good advice and legal opinions that are already posted on this subject. For one, I'm too tired of the same question to wade in again.

Pass me a Guiness please Mate.

Thanks:)
