Default Aviation Consulting

Does anyone have any experience or know anything about breaking in to the aviation consulting industry? I've seen some firms that specialize in providing consultations to private equity and venture capital firms who are considering funding aviation start ups and other aviation business. There are also numerous firms that provide forecasting and such information. As well as firms that do all of the above plus much more. I also know that some pilots do consulting on the side.

Many of the large firms list their leadership on the websites. They are all guys with 20+ years of experience.

Does anyone have any suggestions how to break into this industry? Is there a way for someone to get their foot in the door at one of these firms, even without years and years of experience?

I would imagine they would be looking for business degrees and aviation business experience (not pilot experience, although that could be a useful credibility booster in some circles).
