Cool Intel heard at OBAP Career Fair Aug '15

- AAL LCA/Recruiter: Still four regionals with flow agreements terminating in November. Off the street hiring to resume. Training and HR not yet up to speed to meet demand. Needs/wants to hire more military.

- SWA FO/Recruiter: Airtran has altered the company culture irreparably. Not the same SWA Herb started. Still good airline. Type rating no longer part of the conversation. Check Airman more important qual to have. Make resume and PilotCredentials match; if you use mil conversion on one, do the same on the other. He recommended using it on both.

- UPS HR lady: Still hiring or planning to hire. Threw out some numbers. Not in the amounts as other carriers.

- Virgin LCA: Not interested in anything beyond basic minimum qualifications "if you can adapt to our culture". New hires can hold get west coast immediately after hire. Expect mostly transcon flying from SFO. Military seen as not being able to adapt to civilian culture at company.

- Atlas FO: Keep submitting PAQs and resumes. HR not manned to meet hiring needs, many emails get lost. Having someone walk in your stuff may get more attention. More hired into 74 than 76 in 2015. 17 days not going away.

- Delta Pilot recruiter: Basic walk through resume and discussed AirlineApps setup. No need to mention checkride failures in pilot training or PPL; after that is what they're interested in.

- Endeavor LCA/Recruiter: $20k/yr retention payment disbursed quarterly. Guaranteed interview in two years at DAL.

- Fedex and UAL: NSTR

Overall, great event. I would go again. OBAP seemed squared away, especially the career fair.

Thanks for the gouge. Some of this I heard too, some of it not. The line I'm quoting about Virgin was definitely not the same thing or feeling I got when I talked to an FO who was manning the booth. He looked at my resume and we talked a lot about my military time, and even said he was going to put my resume through/recommend me. I know he is just an FO and the other guy is a LCA, but that's 180 out from "military seen as not being able to adapt to civilian culture at company". I'm not even sure what that means, but it sure is a slap in the face if true.

Fedex hr guy (missed his name, been there 30yrs) reported minimal hiring numbers for the rest of the year thru peak. Then it would be 30/mo indefinitely due to retirements and growth.

You're gouge about AA is not true at all. 3 flow programs w/every pilot for those regionals a guaranteed seat or interview. Flows DO NOT end in November....try at least the next 9 years or so.

ETA: United HR lady specifically asked if I'd be interested/willing to take a GUM assignment. Question was asked in a "what if" scenario versus as a qualifier for employment.
