Default Application Question Killing Me!!!!!!

Hi everyone, I've got an interview scheduled and I have an important question on the packet I received that needs answered.

Have you ever been convicted or found guilty of, or entered a plea of nolo contendere or guilty to, regardless of adjudication, a crime in any jurisdiction, or are you currently under criminal investigation? This question applies to any criminal violation of the laws of any municipality, county, state, or nation, including felony, misdemeanor, municipal and traffic offenses without regard to whether you were placed on probation, had adjudication withheld, were paroled, or pardoned. If you intend to answer "NO" because you believe those records have been expunged or sealed by court order or applicable state laws, you are responsible for verifying the expungement or sealing prior to answering "NO." Your answer to this question will be checked against local, state, and federal records.

Soooo, back when I was a teen, I had an excessive acceleration violation which was "fixed" to keep it off the record. I also had a speeding ticket which was also "fixed." unfortunately I was late with a payment for a non moving tint citation associated with the speeding ticket and that caused my license to be suspended for literally hours.

The NDR from PRIA is for five years but since I was suspended at one point will I always show suspended?
Even though I've had my tickets "fixed" I've still technically paid fines and court costs and admitted guilt (per the question asked) to non moving violations.
Per my state, my record shows NOTHING.

What I'm getting at is, I want to be completely honest but with most everyone, no one wants to disclose information like this if we dont have to..... so, help, please!!!???

I'm still flying the line in the military and haven't filled out any airline apps yet but..

I think the answer you are going to hear from those with airline experience will be along the lines of: "If you want to be 100% honest, be 100% honest. You will have a chance to explain yourself and state what you learned from those experiences. However if you don't admit to it and they somehow find record of it...you're toast. We've almost all made mistakes...the key is to show that you learned from them"

I should add, I am a 5 year 121 pilot so I know the honesty game and didn't hear anything from my current employer about all of this but you guys are right, an opportunity like this is too valuable to waste to not disclose it if I'm not certain. Chances are 100% better to tell my story of my teenage screw ups than to hide it.

ANSWER:

Yes. When I was a teenager, I received 2 citations for excessive acceleration and speeding, and I was also cited for a window tint violation. Since then, I've grown up. I don't believe they will show up on any records check, but they happened, and I learned from them.

Since you refer to it as "the honesty game", I don't think there's really much more to say about it.

If you want to know what is on your NDR, get a copy of your NDR. Same goes for your state license driving record. Don't guess.

List the violations on your application. Do not lie.

I had 12, yes 12, tickets of one sort or another in my past. (None for about 25 years prior to the interview).

None of them showed in any background check that I did.

I listed them all.

I got the interview and job at a major.

That was the first question at the interview..."12 tickets?!? what do you have to say about that?"

Answer, "Too much horsepower, not enough maturity. I realized the error of my ways and shaped up." End of discussion.
