Credit History
Posted this in an old thread earlier but it got buried.. I've read some of the general thoughts on credit history, etc..but wanted to be more specific:
I have 'fair' credit (625-640 Experian). Long story short, I thought my mortgage was on autopay for 5 months (well actually I left the checks with someone..but semantics) in 2015 while deployed. Clearly it did not get taken care of. There were 2 minor late payments on CCs over the last 7 years (thought they were paid off as I deployed again)..but the mortgage issue dropped my score like a rock! I only found out what was going on when I got a credit alert. I obviously called in immediately and paid what was owed.
I have a request into the lender to remove the incident from my report but that's a long shot. Currently it is on my report as having been 3 months overdue..at the very least I hope they don't report the other 2 months.
Do they look at credit before calling for an interview? Would most folks find the main reason behind it understandable at an interview? I'm. It claiming innocence of course and definitely a lesson learned (be sure to follow up, etc).
For better or for worse my availability date isn't until Fall '18. I'd rather get out now but at least this will give me some time to hopefully move the score back up a bit.
Oh and like some other folks I prbly have around 6 traffic tickets over the last 15 years. I think I've only gotten 1 in the last 3 years or so. Most of them were early on, but who knows how long the records even go back. I won't be getting my records with the intent of not disclosing everything, it's just that otherwise I'd just be guessing at tickets/infractions/dates etc.
Sorry for the novel
