Also, XJT has one of the best training departments in the regional world. The only problem with ExpressJet is the upgrade time of 10 years. They are currently over 9 years and not upgrading. They are parking planes by the week, with no end in sight for the next year. It would not surprise me to see down grades on the UA side of the house some time next year.
If you can live off of the $40 FO pay for the rest of the next decade, then go for it. Other wise, find a carrier like Commutair that you can make over $60 an hour in the next few months and get the TPIC. |

With the United CPP, upgrade time is probably going to drop drastically with 25% of all United new hires are required to come from ERJ side of XJT, and I believe the first wave of United new hires from XJT are heading over in November. Also I am pretty sure they didn't hire between 07'/08' and 2011 and are about to have an upgrade class with an 07' and 11' hire in the same class, so that drops the upgrade overnight by 3.5/4 years. I wouldn't be surprised for XJT to have one of the lowest upgrade times come begging of 2017. |
Hmm, looks like Delta would rather have Compass and Endeavor pilots over ASA/ExpressJet. :D

I'm not knocking Xjt, their training is very good don't get me wrong, but I found the training to be the same if not a little bit better at RAH.
Training at both companies is through Flight Safety which is very good. The biggest difference between the two companies was the pace, and expectation level. At XJT, I believe I got 12-15 sims (I forget since it was years ago but I remember they gave us a lot) and they spoon feed the weak to get them through, RAH you were given 10 sims (maybe less can't remember)..they would give you one or two more if you really needed it but it wasn't a given, a few guys in my class didn't make it. Like I said, I'm not knocking Xjt, it was very good training, but very comparible to the training I received elsewhere almost identical since its flight safety. It comes down to how many extra sims you get to let that info set it. And yes it is true United hires a buttload or Xjt pilots... |

Thanks for the training review of xjt. If I want to sit resrve for the next 2 years and not build any time, I'll be sure to submit an app.

If they put out a bid and started to upgrade the Jan 2011 new hire today, he would still be a 6 year upgrade. (granted, they would also have to have about 85 in the class to get to the 2011 new hire) Now as far as the extension of the contract with United. They only extended a small part of the planes that are flying today. It appears about 2 planes per month still have to be parked to get down to what is included in the extended contract. Also about 10 planes have to be parked on the AA side of the house. The parking of the planes will take care of all the guys going to UA on the CPP. There will be no need to upgrade due to the planes getting parked. |
