ExpressJet Training vs USAF
 
Former USAF multi MDS driver. Six initial/upgrade training USAF experiences before XJT. Out of the cockpit since last century. If you're coming off a long period of inactivity, you're flying skills are still there. Mil guys/gals, the big differences are the processes. XJT training is superior and though I don't have direct comparison, they will see you through to the end, even if you're not keeping up with the 23-year olds. No worries. Extra sim, no problem. If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn't believe it. This is USAF/USN/USA at the civilian level. You show interest and some competency, they invest.

Congrats on making it out. I did it the other way around. Years of 121 prior then went to UPT.

You wont find better training in the regional industry from what I hear. The numbers and attrition to the majors and LCCs speaks for the quality of the training. I found these this over in the MESA 3.0 thread from a magazine. They clearly show United and Delta really prefer ExpressJet pilots over everyone else and that's without any type of flow program. They have started a United preferential interview program so those numbers may get even bigger. They sent something like 600 pilots to the majors/LCCs last year and my buddy says they are on pace to exceed that number this year. They are probably your fasted route to a major/LCC over anyone else.

But I want to fly an E-JET with low slung engines. That's what the MAJORS want! Low Slung Engine Time and.... my plane smells like a new pair of sneakers. I NEED Turbine PIC and Bright Orange sunglasses to hang from my left epaulet as I walk through the terminal. Oh Oh Oh and a Billabong backpack for my EFB.

Doesn't having 3400 pilots skew those numbers a little bit? You really can't compare those figures to a small airline like commutair with roughly 300 pilots

Well look at SkyWest Vs. XJT, I believe SkyWest now has more pilots than XJT but XJT sent double the amount of pilots to Delta. Also, SkyWest didn't provide information for the United data.

I've heard great things about ExpressJet's training, it may very well be one of the best ones out there. That said, they have two huge bases at major Delta and United hubs. Obviously, a lot of their pilots will be applying at the major down the road rather than across the country.

That info came from an ALPA magazine. Skypest is non union and is not normally included in the figures.
