Default Pilot shortage.

Hello!
I am curious on how big the pilot shortage is right now? I have around 4,500 hours of which 2,200 turbine. My eyes on are one company right now, what other companies are hiring?? I do.not have a multi engine rating. I hold my single engine land and instrument.

Thanks in advance

So you are looking at companies experiencing pilot shortages that fly single-engine airplanes?

There are quite a few up in Alaska that need pilots.

What is the one company? Airline? Fractional? Corporate? In any case, getting your multi-engine rating should be your main focus right now (as it sounds like your "one company" might require it). Getting your ATP after that should be your next priority.

One more piece of advice, try not to focus in too much on just one company. There is a pilot shortage, at least at certain levels of the industry, so there's plenty to choose from right now. I guess what I'm trying to say is don't pass up good opportunities because you're holding out for your "one company".

If you're talking about major airline, someone with no ME rating and 208 time is not competitive at all. Majors only accept ASEL TPIC to accommodate certain fighter pilots (all of whom got turbine ME training).

Get a ME rating and 25 hours, and any regional will hire you. Then you can add 121 glass ME jet time to your resume.

I've heard most of the FedEx Feeders are hiring Caravan Captains. They send you to Flight Safety and the pay is around $50K. Some have CASS privileges. Perhaps you are already doing this?

I also recommend investing in a "25 hour" multi-engine commercial rating. Many Regionals are giving signing bonuses to current 135/121 pilots as well as paying for your ATP-CTP. My understanding is the new ATP requires 50 multi but will count the 25 jet simulator you obtain during initial training. You obviously have the total time! Keep in mind, the signing bonus should come close to offsetting the multi rating costs! Good Luck!
