Does anyone have any info on the positions of Ground School Instructor or Simulator Instructor at UPS?

Pay?

Working Conditions?

Benefits?

Is it a career position? Or just a job?

Can you someday move to the line?

All SDF of somewhere else?

How to get in? LORs?

Minimum requirements?

Any info is greatly appreciated. Especially if you are currently (or previously) employed in this capacity.

My info is from my experience working in the training department for 1 year as an intern. So I dont know alot of the specifics but it isnt a bad gig.

Not sure on pay.

Working conditions are fairly laid back and good. I worked along side them for a year as an intern. It is a management position.

Benefits are good. Not sure on specifics but trust me....no one is hurting there.

It is basically what you make it... Some guys treat it as a career position, whereas others use it as a stepping stone to something higher up within the company.

You can not move to the line. You are management and have no seniority number and do not/can not move to the line. Sim instructors typically also fly the line, however ground instructors do not.

ALL SDF as far as i know. There may be a little training on the 757 down in MIA but not 100% on that. Vast majority is SDF.

No idea how to get in....look for postings on the upsjobs site. LOR would not be a hard requirement but in reality..... its a hard requirement..... get the idea?

Not sure on min. requirements but id say 3-5 years experience flying or teaching on one of the aircraft types would be a start. Thats a typical experience level for these positions. Flight instructors are made captains right away so they typically require 4000TT and/or time in type.

There is a good possibility that ONT 757 pilots may be doing SVT in MIA at the Alteon facility due to overload at the SDF schoolhouse this year.

 

On a side note, MOST of the mangler instructors are promoted to management from a line position, but as U-I Pilot said there's no turning back. ALL checkrides at UPS are currently performed by management instructors, so hopefully they would be highly qualified when hired.

If you're looking solely for a ground school instructor position, any vacancies are listed on upsjobs. There is one vacancy in the MD currently posted due to an upcoming retirement.

 

There have been quite a few recent hires with very little experience in terms of being a professional pilot in both sim and ground school positions. There's a guy teaching 727 school who is brutally unqualified but came over from another position in UPS. Another low time pilot got a sim job and is chasing the glory of mgt.

 

Guess he'll be displaced into something bigger now
