Checking out Boeing's site and found this:
"Compared one-on-one, the 747-8 Freighter has no competitors. The 747-8 Freighter's empty weight is 82 tonnes (90 tons) lighter than the A380 freighter. This results in a 24 percent lower fuel burn per ton, which translates into 20 percent lower trip costs and 23 percent lower ton-mile costs than the A380F."
Also on this link - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_747-8 - there are 5 airframes purchase by a "yet to be named" buyer. Interesting, and perhaps our cancellation of the "spruce goose of toulouse" is more than what meets the eye.
I sure hope so, this would be the ultimate ride in my opinion.

I posted this before - the A380 parking spots were already under construction in MEM when the deal was cancelled.
Initially the decision was made to reconfigure the parking spots for 777's, but the word came down not to change anything.....

Sorry, forgot. I was just bored and surfing stats. Thanks.

the only problem with the 747 family is that for a ups/fdx type of operation you end up wasting a lot of space. Works great for oversized volume that can use the vertical height though. Unless you can use that space, you are paying quite a bit for it. Without that height I think you pretty much gave a 777 which is why that is becoming a popular choice.
