FedEx Express opens route between India, China
FedEx Express will launch an overnight delivery flight between India and China, a first for the express air cargo industry.
FedEx Express, a subsidiary of Memphis-based FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), said the flight is part of a new eastbound route around the world that connects Europe, India, China and Japan with the U.S. hub in Memphis.
The company will use a wide-bodied MD-11 freighter to fly the route five times a week, doubling the company's capacity between Europe and Asia with the addition of 850,000 pounds per week.
"This new route will relieve mounting capacity constraints for international express service across Europe to Asia, especially the two powerhouse economies of India and China," said Michael L. Ducker, executive vice president-international, FedEx Express. "Our service from Delhi to Shanghai will benefit our customers, whose business is fueling this $14 billion trade route."
FedEx Express lauched a westbound around-the-world route earlier in the year, which included the industry's first direct flight from mainland China (Shanghai) to Europe (Frankfurt, Germany).
