Lanyards...and Uniforms

We were getting off point on the Disputed Pairings thread...

No I am not a scab or non-member because I don't wear the lanyard. I don't like them and now that negotiations are over...I don't wear it. I like my ALPA tie tack and my ALPA sticker...and I enjoy the VOLONTEER work I do down at the union.

I think that when you show up at the Hotel at the same time every morning checking in and they look at you...and have NO clue that you are a pilot...working for FedEx, then it is obvious that with our uniforms we don't look like pilots. I think the lanyards add to the already too casual look.

I always preferred those little plastic cards that go behind your company ID.

You know, the ones that hang down below your ID and are visible for a half-inch or so.

You can change them up too, depending on the issue the union wants to emphasize.

I wear my lanyard (mob psychology is a beautiful thing) but I take it off the instant I get in the cockpit - I was taught that at a certain self-defense course....

I prefer the ALPA boxers.

The mental picture of you in a ALPA thong almost made me throw up Mark! Not a pretty picture.

I don't care if the people at the hotel can't tell what I do for a living. BUT, if that is what concerns you, a lanyard saying AIRLINE PILOTS ASSOCIATION INT'l would help you give them a clue. And, if they can't figure that out - then a hat and double breasted coat would only get them to ask you to deliver bags to the rooms!

Why do people want to look less casual? I find it kind of silly. I'd wear a clown suit if it would pay more.

I've always thought that we should wear a nice polo shirt with khakis and topsiders -- and ballcaps!:D
