Honestly--if you live in a city NW flies, you can fly in on the morning launch, do an afternoon standby, and if you aren't launched catch the pm flight home and still have time to love on the wife. Getting an extra 4:30 aint' that painful. I'll take that pain over having a scheduling NAZI trash the one sweet trip I had during the month and putting me on sub (with no crashpad!) for a week in MEM.

USN...nice Avatar...you've shown you can be creative. Now bring back the duck.
I can see your points about the control. The old contract certainly did not give you the control that this one does especially if you are senior in your seat. That is definitely a plus plus to the new contract.

Since I am an ANC guy we have no trips shorter than about 2.5 days so the substitution of yesteryear was a plus for us. We could likely not get used if training conflicted with a 6 day trip or less which is fairly common. I got my second bid for training and ended up losing pay this time around since I couldn't find anything paletable in the view/add. Plus it hit me just as we were transitioning to the new way of business so most of us were wondering what in the world the view add was anyway then with a blink of an eye it was over.

Thanks for all the comments. This makes this board really handy since we are implementing the new work rules. If anyone finds anymore gotchas in the new rules please post them to prevent an F in bidding for the rest of us.

So do I understand this right: If I have a 1 or 2-day crap trip and I'm senior enough to bid and be awarded a recurrent slot that conflicts with it, I get that training slot and the trip goes into M/U?

Simply - YES. Any trip that conflicts with training goes into m/u

Flaps50...I see your point too. In my "MEM is the universe" view commuting in/out ain't that big a deal. I hadn't thought about ANC ramifications. I still like the new policy, but I do see who that might be tougher on you.

Still love the Avatar....

Yeah, I'll never talk smack about combat camera again... I am hoping to get MEM on the next bid so I guess I can tough it out.

Speaking of recurrent training and bidding, after doing my recurrent training bid for April (I also have VAC), I made this suggestion today to the company and the PSIT. Anyone else see it as a good idea?

Now that we are bidding on recurrent training slots via seniority, would it be possible to list the people that are doing training, that month, by seniority instead of (or along with) the alphabetical listing? The folks in their grace month would be placed at the top in seniority order as well, of course. It would go a long way to making it easier to try to figure out how many training slots one had to bid. Along with that, could we get the webmasters to add onto the Recurrent Training Bid page what one's relative seniority among those bidding training is, ie, "For recurrent training bidding purposes, you are bidding x of y MD-11 Capts due for training in the APR07 bid month."

Thanks
