Keeping that kind of tone, even if you disagree, goes a long way towards getting good info our and reigning stupidity in on these boards. These boards are a valuable resource, but they can get polluted to the point they are almost unusable (see FI).

Our goal is to provide a useful, and hopefully a credible resource to working pilots. The anonymity that we afford users here does come with a degree of peril in that a few users post things they wouldn't say face-to-face.

When we wrote our terms of service a few years ago we were thing along the same lines as what you posted above

From the forum TOS

Abiding by the following guidelines will make everyone's experience of the forums more enjoyable. We're all here primarily to discuss the piloting profession; we all share in the good and the bad that this industry has to offer. Please use the "good neighbor" policy when posting to this site. If you wouldn't say it to your neighbor face to face, than don't say it here (and we are talking about a hypothetical neighbor that you like and respect, not necessarily your current neighbor).
The point that aviation is a "small world" is absolutely true. The aviation community is like the Kevin Bacon game, but only with 3 to 4 degrees of separation. We all know the same guys and gals.

Hey, we might spout out mouths off a lot here, but it's better than being on Wife Swap looking like a dufus.

I guess one of the worst things about online discussions is that the emotional atributes one uses when typing obviously don't come out in the text, which is left to interpretation of the reader. Many of us pilots aren't literary prodigies when it comes to putting our thoughts down. Myself, I'm one of those "smart-A--'s," but I enjoy helping someone out when they need it, and having fun the rest of the time. This place is just as much entertainment as anything for me personally. I check it often and as mentioned before, I like to help someone out if I can. You guys have a great forum, and keep it well maintained. Honestly there's nothing I wouldn't say here than to your face, and vice-versa. G-day

I'll spare you guys the long version of the story, but I was friends with Albie in college in the eighties, and friends with him on the pilot web boards in the 2001-2002 time frame, but it was not until I ran into him in the AOC in 2003 that I found out it was the same person!

Ugh! Sat down in Memos here in CGN last night. Its UPS crew hang out. I just wanted some schnitzel and a beer, but overheard this UPS crew - the FO was describing to his Capt about a sex change procedure (a little slicing and dicing) one of their crewmembers recently had! Sure glad I didn't order the brat' !

But yes, you're right, it is tough! ;)

Well....TonyC used to have a signature line..."some things are better left alone..." My saracastic post aside--I gotta agree with that one...
