I saw that ancient reference in the article. It was wrong a year ago when the rumour circulated, and it's certainly wrong now.

The article is primarily about Boeing checking to see if its suppliers could ramp up to let it re-offer a pax version of the aircraft, and if they could get say 50 of them out the door on the fly. They then recirculate the rumour about Amazon from a year ago.

The rumour this time is that UA wants another 50 passenger 767-300s. Who knows.

Amazon has 10-year dry leases on the Atlas aircraft and 7 year dry-leases on the ATI 767-300s. They have plenty of time to thing about what they want to do for replacement aircraft. As I have said before, I think they go smaller before they dry-lease any more 767-type aircraft.

I'd be willing to bet one could buy a 747-8 for the same money (maybe even less) than a 767 right now...

The rumor of Amazon is real according to my sources at Boeing. As always, Amazon is good at smoke and mirrors with information. My guess is the announcement will happen before the holidays to boost Prime Air marketing. Which pilot group will be involved in this opportunity is anyone's guess. My prediction is they will apply for their own certificate and use the current set-up until they get approval.

It amazes me that the 767 is still being produced after the 787's release. They must be getting some good deals.
