You are going to love this place! Congrats and see you around campus soon.

The quote this past week was, "the pool is VERY small."

a2b boxhaul 06-09-2007 02:42 PM

Tigerpilot1995 06-10-2007 06:36 AM

One guy in my class got pulled out of the pool because he called and told them he was now more qualified than when he interviewed. This was after sitting in the pool for 11 months. fyi

UPS1856 06-10-2007 12:46 PM

Thanks a2b boxhaul. I am still in disbelief just real busy getting everything in order.

I will try and post info during our class to help others. This chat board was great for intel during the entire process for me. I hope what they told tigerpilot's class is correct then everyone will be drained from the UPS pool soon!

exp96 06-10-2007 01:56 PM

Its good to see the're still picking up RJ guys, so there's still hope for the rest of us!

Don't forget that you got another 150 in uniform money this June! They give you everything here but shoes. You can always buy yourself a couple new pairs of black ones.

Freightpuppy 06-10-2007 10:17 PM

You do have to get your own underwear, undershirts and socks too! :D

Waborita congrats as well. See you there.

Can any guys who went thru recently confirm that the "brown" uniform shorts for package day run 2 sizes too small.
Hate to have to look like I am in brown spandex for day two.
My buddy said they it looked like they had 21 "fat guys" trying on shorts on day 2.

Don't forget they give you a flight bag and choice of sizes on an overnight bag as well. Albeit it is not the nice leather ones we used to get.

Moondog 06-12-2007 06:37 AM

Congrats to all with class dates and even those in the pool. Wish I was swimming with you. Here is my question. I submitted my app in April, along with the rest of the free world and was wondering how long the wait usually is for the interview call. My background is retiring mil, with exp/types in T-38, C-141, B-707, B-727, B-757, Ce-500 and G-IV. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Good luck and safe flying! Moondog.

peterpilot379 06-12-2007 02:05 PM

Moondog.....

There is no "usual" wait which makes it frustrating. It could be days, weeks, months, based on folks before me. Nobody knows. HR said they have just over 1500 apps on file and they plan to hire about 100 more this year. I've heard some theories that the computer software picks you for interview (perhaps at random) and then the online rec helps you get hired. I've also heard that inside connections will help you get the interview. Personnaly, I would put more stock in the first theory. Get as many inside connections and recs as you can! I waited 7 months to get the call to interview. Be patient and keep sending out those positive waves man. Best of luck to you.

shizzle 06-12-2007 03:10 PM

moondog....
i cant vouch for others but i applied in the apr window, assessment 1 may, called for interview about a week later, interview at beginning of june, awaiting results of whiz quiz and background check for possible 2 jul class..a buddy of mine had a similar timeframe..

good luck

shizzle

MoosePileit 06-12-2007 04:03 PM

Heard Buzz chased a DHL guy down leaving today to offer him 2 Jul after his interview pending and immediate/old school whiz quiz. Sounds like a good place to be. Yep, the pants and shorts run a bit small, or maybe the celebration dinners post hire got to us.

Any idea on the numbers for next year?

Moondog 06-12-2007 05:32 PM

Thanks Peter and Shizz. Was afraid you'd say that. Guess its just wait and cross fingers.

The number of airplanes coming on property are greater than those leaving. That is with no plan on which plane will replace the "8" in 5 or 6 years. Expect to see similar numbers next year as this year. The "we are short 300 pilots right now" seems to be a common theme. There will be a lot of ANC MD and 747-400 hiring in the next 18 months.

MoonShot 06-12-2007 06:25 PM

Off topic, but, the 767s on order are planned to do what kind of flying? Mostly domestic? Is that what most of the current 767s are doing?

I believe they are ER models that will be doing pond jumping. The A300 is slowly but surely leaving Europe....so we are told.

I was told in October, UPS will hire it's last class for 2007.

Is that normal to ready the company for peak and have all training people avail to fly?

unfortunately 0%, there are some requirements they will not budge on. Have a bud in the same boat as you. No 4 year degree no chance.

Rook 06-13-2007 08:00 PM

Wow! Even though there are some on property, including mgmt pilots, without the 4year degree?

No 4 year degree no chance.

I have not read the official qualifications for UPS in a while. however, my friend starts july 2nd and has never stepped foot on a university. ie.. highschool ONLY.

There are probably some people on property that didn't have 1000 PIC when they got hired either. Was there not a time when 1000 PIC wasn't a requirement?

Slice 06-13-2007 08:19 PM

One of my recs only had 2 years of college...he was hired in 2000, however.

...you happen to have an MD-11 type rating. There was a very recent new hire w/out the 4 year degree but w/ 'other over-riding qualifications.' So, don't count yourself out...

Rgds...

FliFast 06-14-2007 05:48 AM

Tiger,

Good question about having folks avail for peak....I started Feb 26 and just got released to the line a few days ago-almost 4 months if my math is correct.

Just a wag, but I think anyone that starts in Oct. probably won't be done until Jan/Feb time frame. Again, just a guess given the holidays and the workload of the maxed out training dept.

Any other opinions ???

FF

CactusCrew 06-14-2007 06:34 AM

Almost the same experince here on the B757/767 fleet.

Started March 8th. ETA for release to line is now Jul 12. Just over 4 months from start to finish.

As always, your mileage may vary ... ;)

Neosporin 06-14-2007 08:21 AM

Maddog, slice and hawk, others, thanks for the info/advice, positive!!!

very cool, thanks

you know maddog and slice are two beverages you can mix with rum.

Swedish Blender 06-14-2007 10:19 AM

I know several pilots who would not meet the minimums to apply today, excluding the overwater. One of my friends just upgraded on the Bus and only has 400 hours PIC in a metro. I know a management guy on the Bus they are paying him to go to college right now. The 1000 PIC requirement didn't exist prior to 9/11.

Nashmd11 06-14-2007 10:59 AM

There are many here, even post 1988, that have ZERO college. Just need the right person pushing for you. Management or OBAP. In my circle alone, I know at 15 here without any college.

de727ups 06-14-2007 02:49 PM

I got hired with about 300 PIC turbine in a Convair. I still bet I only have 450 hours of PIC turbine to my name and I've been in the left seat in ONT for a year. Didn't know anybody at UPS, either, but got hired in 1990, back when UPS was hiring warm bodies and nobody wanted to work here.

Anyone in the biz less than 10 years probably doesn't know freight jobs were once looked down upon by the masses.

cargo4life 07-23-2008 11:49 AM

I interviewed and received a pool letter in Aug 07...still swimming...any new updates to how many are in the pool and when we might get a call? I haven't seen any poolie posts in 2008....anyone else still swimming out there???

UPSFO4LIFE 07-23-2008 12:32 PM

Don't look for anything until the DHL deal gets signed. After that the only rumor I have heard is maybe 20-30 this year and maybe 100-200 in 09. These are only rumors though.

Good luck
