How many in the UPS Pool???

It seems there are a number of folks wanting to know how deep the pool is for UPS (myself included). We can't determine the upper limit, but we can define the lower limit by chiming in. Add your pool letter date or month and we can perhaps build a better picture.

I'll start:

1) AKPlacer, Pool letter mid-Feb

I was told there were about 60. I know of 3 other poolies (1 is mgm't)

Slice 03-23-2007 07:04 PM

I was told by Phil D the first week of Feb that there were approximately 60 in the pool. This was at my interview off the top of his head. There have been 25-30 to start class since then. Not all went into the pool. Myself and at least one other in my class(probably a few more too) got class dates within 2 weeks of interviewing. I know they were doing interviews last week because I saw a few guys waiting in the lobby. Best I can do for now.

AKPlacer 03-24-2007 10:29 AM

So, we know there are at least 13 now. Anyone else? I hope the 3 who have been swimming a year or more get called soon, for their sake and the uncertainty it places in the minds of all the newer poolies.

Any new rumors on classes in May?

Good luck to all.

AKPlacer 03-29-2007 01:33 PM

Minus 1

Took the pee test today, so assuming noone drugged me in my sleep the pool should be minus one.

Hope the rest of you are getting calls too...

14LEDs 03-29-2007 01:35 PM

Congrats AK... hope to see ya there... I hope you'll take an ANC slot.. ;-)

14LEDs and Fish,

Thanks. I hope they will let me take one of the ANC MD-11s. I was clear about it being my first choice in the interview, and I politely reminded them again when they called with the contingent offer. However, I haven't heard of anyone getting one with my background (Fighters).

I heard from metro-mia. He also got called for the pee test, so make that minus 2 out of the pool this week.

Any additions or subtractions to the pool? How do you think the new hiring process will hurt or help the Poolies with no heavy oceanic time?

We're in the pool for the reason, we don't really meet their qualifications. This is only going to make the swiw alot longer! What really makes this "heavy int'l" requirement suck is that I've got two buds that were heavy drivers and both were put in the 75. Typical non-pilot HR types making pilot decisions.

757/767 Also does a lot of intl

Unless they were specifically assigned to the SDF domestic domicile, they will be flying intl regularly. MIA, ONT and SDFZ mix a lot of intl with some domestic, so the intl experience doesn't hurt.

They are hot to fill ANC, you should be good....

AKPlacer 04-19-2007 09:53 PM

Guess I'll wait

Actually, I got the call on Monday asking my domicile preference for the 757 (class start next week). I expected as much, since HR is making a significant effort to fill the MD-11 slots with heavy/international experienced types. I was hoping and asking for an ANC MD-11, but I expected 757 based on my fighter only background. I'm just thankful to be starting...as my terminal leave runs out soon. I'll switch to an ANC aircraft/domicile as soon as they'll let me.

Good luck to all those applying, trying to apply, waiting for assessment e-mails, interview phone calls, pool letters, a drug test, or a class date!

Jetpilot 04-20-2007 03:44 AM

I've heard the Feds didn't want a bunch of rookies up north to go with the rookie captains up north. The masses here don't want to go up north because of the commute. The answer brown came up with was to hire the experience. They'll let you go up there as soon as they can get away with it, I'm sure of that........

Enjoy the 757, I'm learning it now...

They have been giving that number since they started to interview in Nov 2004. If they know they will not give it out.

I hope they empty the pool FIRST, before they interview anymore.

Count Me In Pool

Guys

New here. Int: 29 Mar, Pool letter 2 weeks later, Drug test 12 April.

Quick Question: If they gave me the drug test does that mean I might be going to the class in May.

I'd like to give you a congrats. You are in and on your way to class very soon. Probably going to ANC, good time to get there when your done with training. Fishing will be great, long hours of daylight, warm. I'll see you up there when someone finally gives in and lets me. swimming like an otter.

How many went to the 23 Apr class

a2b Boxhaul

How many of the above list of names went to the 23 Apr class. As a 747 Capt you should be a shoe in for 747 or Md11. Also, is the rumor true that regional and figher guys do not get internatinal. I'm a herc driver with Airbus318/19, 737, md83 experince so who knows where I will go, any thoughts

I'm a RJ/fighter type and got SDFZ, so it's not true...odds are against going to ANC with my background right now.

Cpt. Bat 04-23-2007 04:48 AM

Slice, if you don't mind me asking, where did you fly RJ's?

As far as any thoughts , HR sorts out the levels of experience to meet the needs of the company. They offer classes and tell guys what to expect for equipment. That said the oldest guys usually get their first choice(75/76). Now can an rj driver end up in ANC. Maybe, but just as likely they end up 75/76. Just depends on the needs of UPS. I know of one guy in the APR 23 class who was a 747 driver I don't know what equipment he's on yet. Believe it or not, all of the 747 drivers I know who were hired up until now have so far ended up on the 75/76(their choice). Pretty much blows out the go to the MD11 based on type of flying experience idea most people in this forum would think is the norm. So with all of that said . I can't quite figure out a lot of the how, who,and where. I just know that HR figures it out. I do think I will get a class date(-400?). I know that I have been in the pool a long time but there have been others who have been in longer and they got classes. So until then I'll enjoy flying with my happy boxes in my big jet all over the place. Its really that easy and most of the time fun. Anc is getting warm, days are getting longer, the beer is cold, and FISHING season is coming .Swimming like an otter.
