One of my crahpad mates is a NW A320 Captain. He frequently discusses quitting (early retirement actually at a greatly reduced rate) and going to work for someone else. He's single and can afford to take such a risk ... makes me think things must ne pretty bad there?

not so sure that things are that bad, they just aren't what they used to be
