That shut down had nothing to do with a pilot shortage. That was a successful, expanding and well compensated gig until it was sold to the current owner.

This is bad for the pilot world in the long run. Even the perception of airlines shutting down because of a pilot shortage will accelerate the push for single pilot or even pilotless airplanes.

The same thing was said when Great-Lakes, arguably a more well-known company, shut down.

If a hospital opened up with shiny new equipment but wanted to hire doctors for $40k/year working night shifts and crappy benefits, then had to shut down because they couldn’t hire or keep doctors, would it be blamed on a dr shortage?

Not happening for a while. Especially in light of automatic systems trying to command airplanes to dive into the ground.

Yes, if the goal was to lower the education requirements the industry would claim MD shortage. The reason it isn’t happening is because hospitalization isn’t viewed as “one of the safest form of medical treatment”. Successful surgeries or treatments aren’t taken for granted. One of the ways the medical industry is seeking to lower staffing costs is by greater use of nurse practitioners. That being said the medical field is inherently fraught with risks and unknowns whereas our field has thoroughly matured due to less overall depth of the subject comparatively speaking. I know this isn’t a popular opinion but it’s true.

Look at the comparative number of doctors and speed of service for more than primary care in the British and Canadian systems; that's where we will end up with exclusively-government healthcare as, over a decade, the smart/hardworking folks who become doctors today instead go to Wall Street or Silicon Valley.
