Military to Cargo questions

I’m at roughly 2000 TT, 1500 PIC in fighters, currently flying light attack after 2 year ground tour. Getting my ATP in January and had some questions prior to sending out apps. As much as I’d love to get hired by Brown or Purple, I believe this is not realistic given the fact I have no heavy time.

My question is, what are some decent cargo operators where I can realistically make 70-80k or more year one (if any)? Is something like Mountain Air Cargo worth it for the Purple Pathway program? ATI and K4 salaries look pretty good as well, but I’m not sure if I’d be competitive there either.

I appreciate any info and guidance.

Apply and if Brown or Purple don’t take you then their loss.

You can make your desired salary here at K4 plus a lot more if on the 74. The transition to a multi crew heavy will be an uphill climb, but definitely less steep then UPT was.

Don’t sell yourself short with UPS/FDX...

That is awesome! Congrats on the CJO!

If you fly for Atlas, Fedex will hire you. Based upon the numbers of ex Atlas I fly with, I am convinced we hire every Atlas pilot that interviews just to hamstring Amazon.

Don't limit yourself to cargo, I wouldn't turn it down by any means but the big three + SWA are also pretty good deals.

Any of the top tier nowdays (except UPS?) will pay close to $100K-ish first year. So nobody has to eat ramen or take out a second mortgage anymore

One of our Captains at Spirit went to FedEx. He sat on my jumpseat two months ago.

Over half of his class were zoomies, zero experience outside of Eagles and Lawn Darts.

Your lack of wide body experience won’t hurt your chances.

Someone else suggested throwing in your apps at the legacies + SWA. I wouldn’t discount Spirit either, especially if you live in one of their bases.

Apparently we’ve been recruiting more and more mil guys after the contract passed.

You won’t break $100k until your second year, but people seem to enjoy it here.

There’s no reason to go to Mountain Air Cargo with your qualifications.

I’ll argue for cargo. No passengers, no gate agents, no crazy flight attendants. Very little drama and “passengers bill of rights” type buffoons.

There are plenty of single seat guys here with no previous heavy time. You definitely won't get hired if you don't apply. As far as money goes, budget enough to get through the first year at brown ($50kish) and you will make over $200k starting 2nd year. It is well worth the short term pain if you can manage it!
