UPS June 4th class drop

June 4th first officer new-hire class breakdown:

A300: 5
DC8: 2
MD11 ANC: 8
757/767 ONT: 5

Class is being filled at this time.

FreightDog

Do you know how its determined who gets what airplane/base in each class? Are they automatically putting all the transoceanic/transport guys in Anchorage or do they rack and stack everyone based on the interview and you pick in order?? Or is it something else??

Thanks

Freight Dog 05-17-2007 01:30 PM

I'm not positive, but I believe it's based on date of birth (oldest in class gets first pick)-- with the exception being who gets the MD11 ANC. That's assigned to heavy iron drivers only.

Awesome! I've got two below me already on the DC8! (:)Check out the new avatar :)) I thought the next class was mostly ANC. Glad to see a mix.

Hey dog, for the last few classes, no one has gotten a choice. They try to put you in what you want but said ultimately go you where they need you. The MD11 ANC group usually knows prior to class.

"757/767 ONT: 5"

Yea...

We need more F/O's in ONT bad.

Most of the time you don't get to pick aircraft type or base. HR will pick and it DOES NOT go by date of birth.

Tigerpilot1995 05-17-2007 04:36 PM

Buz asked my preferences in base and aircraft. Maybe that was my bid. He said they do their best to honor your request but sometimes need trumps that.

Rook 05-17-2007 04:38 PM

so there are still guys getting classes without heavy time?

I live there but just got Z this week. I guess it does not make sense to give me ONT just a few weeks prior to the 5 ont's they will have in June. All this does it load planes up with unnecessary commuters.....still happy though,,

You bet! RJ only boy here. I think there is at least one more other like me in the 6/4 class. Time will tell if we are worthy but I like my chances! :)

Welcome to the -8, Luckydawg! It is a great airplane, and the instructors are top notch. Many fear from the old technology, but, let me tell ya, the thing is a tank! Enjoy!

Welcome to the world known as UPS. There are many things that will never make sense to you. Just sit back and enjoy the ride... :D

The same thing happened to me 2 years ago. It kinda sucked commuting to SDF for the year but it went by pretty quick. The good thing is when you to come to ONT you wont have to go to training on a new plane.

It's so bad, my line improvement requests were denied due to inadequate reserve coverage.

Tiger you da man. Congrats! How long were you swimming before you found out?

Tigerpilot1995 05-18-2007 12:27 PM

Rook, I am almost embarrased to say that I swam for a whole 5 days! I had a class date 10 days after I interviewed. I have never claimed to be unlucky my friend.

RJ driver here as well. See you in a few weeks!

Well, you will get the A300 or the 8. If it's the 8, I'll see you. Congrats!

Tigerpilot1995 05-18-2007 06:23 PM

I sure hope it is the A300 or DC8 because those of the SDF bases available. Just want to sit at home on reserve. :D

Rottweiler 05-18-2007 07:16 PM

If you get the A300, you won't be sitting home on reserve. The A300 is so understaffed that reserves are flying full months, and the company is junior manning captains to the right seat.

I only say that because a guy I talked to has flown 4.5 hours in the past 6 weeks.

It's not a bad idea to get some time on the new machine, do well on your 12month check, and then sit home on reserve.

Thanks...Can't tell you how stoked I am about getting on...If it is the -8 or the A300 what kind of schedule/trips should a new hire expect?

600 in one year on the bus

v2plus25 05-19-2007 08:47 AM

Bottom guys on the bus seem to be getting GDL trips and early am turns.

767pilot 05-19-2007 02:09 PM

Funny how the idea of those trips make line holders sick. Same thing happened when we had GDL and MTY on the Z

Don't you want to at least get comfy on the plane before you hope to just sit at home on reserve?

The comment was intended to say that I want to be based at home. Like not sit in a crashpad on reserve if I don't have to. Either way works though, really not worried cause I just won the lottery! :D

That's why the FAA has that consolidation requirement ...

If you can't get comfy in 100 hours, well, its going to be a long year ...

v2plus25 05-19-2007 07:43 PM

The 727 was the sweet deal to sit at home and hardly ever work. Oh well, that's on the way out!

I think your idea of comfy and mine are a little different. We can't ALL be Maverick ya know.

That's great Tiger. I was an RJ guy that went ACMI cuz I thought that was the only way I could get an interview. Congrats guys!

a2b boxhaul 05-20-2007 12:59 PM

congrats to all, say hi to my former fellow coworkers since there are at least 2 and probably more showing up. Going to MD11 I think. See ya in ANC at Humpys or fishing at ship creek. Saftey note: wear glasses since nothing ruins your day more than a hook in the eye while your combat fishing. Fly safe its a jungle out there.

CactusCrew 05-20-2007 01:19 PM

Not Exactly

Top Gun ... ???

Maverick ... ???

You don't know me very well ! ... ;) .... besides, you said COMFY, not good !

One thing about MOST of my 100 hour consolidation periods ... I usually had near 100 hours in ONE month with numerous TOs & Ldgs. Probably a lot different than here at Brown.

Repetition, Repition, Repetion ... what a way to learn !

:D

I do think the aircraft that I felt LEAST comfortable in at 100 hours was the CRJ ... Maybe I have some Boeing blood or something ? ! :D

Anybody in the June 4th class have a location other than Louisville under the "Location" part of the online app? I read on previous class forums that sometimes you could tell what domicile you were going to from this.

Anything on this yet? Mine still says Louisville.

Just a few days to go. Doing my last trip at the "old" job this week.

Congrats on the job!! I think they are telling people when they get the call that they will be heading to ANC....if they didnt say then you will be going somewhere else. You can always call HR and ask.

Tigerpilot1995 05-26-2007 02:35 PM

When I was called I was asked my prefs. ANC was last on my list. There is quite a mix in my class.
