Pretty much as the name implies...with a few exceptions. Dr appt etc.

Pretty much is what it is. Of course, you are never required to fly when sick or fatigued.

Thank you for those replies.

Is it something that happens often?

Varies with staffing, vacations, peak etc. Certainly not the end of the world. I would say less now with the new contract where scheduling puts trips out at 150, 175, or 200%.
The open time gets grabbed pretty quick. After 6 times you would get the pay and the day back. I have not had 6 JRMs in the last couple of yrs.

Hi out there... any updates on ABX? Or June classes for new hires at ABX?

I interviewed recently and am in the hiring ‘pool’ and was told a June class was likely, but I can’t get any more information than that. I’m trying to make plans.

Is there anyone else perhaps in the same boat? I also received an offer from a top-tier regional (this will be my second regional as the first one closed due to covid) but I much rather learn the 767, fly cargo, and see the world rather than repeat some of the regional flying I’ve already done.

Thank you so much for any input or feedback. I would love to hear from anyone currently in the pool... or others currently employed knowledgeable about the company or operations.

Thank you.

ABX is currently running 2 new hires classes. 10 pilots x class. Planing to have another class at the end of June. Different mix of experience in both classes (MIL, 135, 121 and International Airlines).
Pilots basic indoc in ILN and then out to DEN, ATL, MIA or DFW sims.
If you are selected for class be ready to turn your 2 weeks letter right away.
Best Luck!

Some people seem to be able to get semi-solid information, but they don't really tell us what's coming until it's almost here. We get an email telling us there are classes going on, and future hiring and upgrades will be announced somewhere in the undefined future.

As far as whether you wait for ABX or take the offer from the regional, there's an old saying about a bird in the hand, et cetera and so on. You also probably wouldn't be the first person in history to take the offer in front of you and then bolt when a better offer comes along. We've certainly seen our share of those.

The real ABX Story

Where to begin. Well you can get a felony or 3 and become a VP! They can't fill a new hire class despite having a new contract. I suspect because the airline has no growth plans and even if there is growth ATSG can take the planes and pilot careers away in a split second in about 12 months from now when all the scope expires. There is no home basing when all other ACMI carriers have Home basing. Chime in management on this thread saying ABX has "work rules" not so much they like to reschedule at will now. The retirement isn't enough to make it stand out over ATI or K4. The hate for pilots gets worse by the month at ABX. Look elsewhere young grasshoppers!

Just filled the last 2.....can only "reschedule" 2 days a month, hardly at will. ABX actually is the only carrier that has works rules. Ati and K4 can have their whole bid award taken away day one each month. As far as home basing...it was never negotiated for. What are you smoking?
You will never pass a drug test.
