Thumbs up UPS 2 July class drop and pool numbers

Did we already cover this?

Anyone want to brag about what they got?
Next class is 31 July right? I'm still swimming since Apr. Who else is waiting?

Good luck to all!

How many were in the Class? As was said earlier, HR said they will have Hired 187 by the end of July. If were lucky, UPS may reach 300 by the end of the year. Not the 450+ numbers of 1994, but not bad.

Hello all at UPS,

I have made it through 99.9% of the interviewing/hiring process and believe that I will be in class at the end of July.

With ANC being mentioned in every conversation with HR, I am starting to plan for a move/commute to the last frontier. Could someone enlighten me on the jumpseat possibilities with UPS. I would be starting my commute out of DTW, and I know that I can get to PHL, RFD, and SDF almost every day.

How many SDF-ANC per day? Any RFD or PHL to ANC? Would you know how full the jumseats are?

Thanks,
Brian

Sorry but I can not answer you questions. From a previous thread on here it seems that there might be quite a few domestic spots in that class. With the MD-11 sim fiasco you might not see many in that class. It seems to really come down to your experience.

Best wishes and congrats.

The problem is that as more folks are hired into the MD-11 and 747-400 to ANC, the jumpseats will get more and more full. That said, jumpseating will most likely become more and more difficult on UPS. One bright side is that if you are listed on a UPS jumpseat and you still don't make it up there, although you don't get paid for the trip you miss, no disciplinary action is taken.

I was told by HR just the other day that even if you don't get ANC right away, there is a good possiblity that many of the new hires will end up there anyway on the next bid. I understand that the bottom guys are getting noncommutable lines, also. Sounds like you may have to move up there unless commuting home for 2 days is worth it. I was told by some friends that the jumpseats on UPS are getting full.

Hey Brian,
I can not speak for ANC but I was hired into ONT and have commuted out of DTW for 2 years. It has been a piece of cake... It beats being on reserve in SDF. ONT has seen much more growth on the 756 than any other base..

Quite honestly I doubt the HR person has the big picture. The problem is is that we are short system wide, not just ANC. It would be robbing Peter to pay Paul if they displace folks to ANC. UPS is slowly accepting the fact that folks do not want to live in ANC. Hopefully the lines become more commutable and they free up as many jumpseats as possible. I predict a COLA for ANC in the near future to entice folks to go there.

We would be having a severe staffing problem if not for all of the FE's and FO's coming off of the 727 this summer.

Thanks for the info on the commute. I was told the same thing as stingray with repect to being bumped into ANC on a bid. My pref is SDF Z (?) but I will make anything work.

On my way to drug test today. TSA background check being performed. I hope to hear from HR next week with the other 0.1% of the offer.

Brian
