Question Alpa Dues On Loa Money?

Does anyone know how or if ALPA will view our proposed benefits under the LOA as income and charge us the 1.95%? Or, will this be treated as 'bonus' money not afforded every line pilot and therefore not subject to the 1.95% dues rate?

Question More questions

Is the $2700 for rent, income, or will it be treated like per diem; again don't know, and guess we won't until we find out!

From JL's LOA info:

"# Housing. Enhanced option only. The housing allowance does not count for high five earnings. It counts towards taxes but the Company pays that portion. See the tax equalization explanation posted on the web site. In the housing trips made to each place, reasonable housing was available for the allowance. Also, the intent was never for the Company to totally subsidize housing. The pilot is expected to help pay for housing. If you buy rather than rent, the Company does not get the rent tax credit so it pays more in taxes. Some of that is recouped by reducing the monthly allowance for the pilot."

Since it doesn't count toward high 5 I don't think the union can consider it pensionable earnings, and therefor I would think that you wouldn't have to pay dues on it either. It is taxable though, something to keep in mind.

After reading the company Tax info it would not be taxable for us (the company may have to pay taxes on it to the foreign government).
