Work Rules

Just for planning purposes, I was wondering which work rules you guys were planning on giving up on the next contract so that 100-200 FDA guys could get a marginally better economic deal than we have under the current contract?

fedupbusdriver 08-02-2007 12:54 PM

Lets give up seniority. We'll just have someone grade our landings, and you will be paid and bid accordingly.;)

Lindy 08-02-2007 01:06 PM

Not a work rule, but no need to keep it around......VEBA

I'm willing to let VEBA go away.

Delete it from the CBA.

No need for an enhancement to VEBA (add pilots on the seniority list under 53 years old) . That way we will not need to expend negotiating capital to expand or enhance.

VEBA does not pertain to the Junior folks (except we pay for it and receive nothing in return).

(Folks, this is cynicism.........)

fdxflyer 08-02-2007 01:45 PM

Actually, I agree. Away with VEBA!

Just kidding. I might amend it though.

Why do we need VEBA if guys are going to fly until 65? As a young guy, will I even get to benifit from VEBA?

And that my friend, is the definition of a leading question. So...have you stopped beating your wife?

FDXLAG 08-02-2007 04:24 PM

Only a leading question if you haven't already caught him beating his wife. And we have already established you will give up work rules, so why is that a leading question?

Sure those over 60 captains will be much happier when you work with them. That and the warm feeling you get for helping your fellow man are about it.

I'm happt to give up the "mini snack." the white box from narita was brutal!

Albief15 08-04-2007 07:51 PM

Okay, those are fighting words.

I've said this before, but if you grab my mini-snack--bad back and all--I WILL whip your @ss.

Just callin' it like I see it. There's been a few mornings my ALPA dues were worth the cheese and crackers. And no--that wasn't tongue in cheek...

I guess I could live without Agency Shop. :)

VEBA is the worst - VEBA and the HSAs that is. VEBA cost was $43M and the HSAs were a bit more than that. Believe that was the single highest expenditure in this contract for something new (i.e. not counting COLA on pay raises or retro pay). Cost of the B fund for 3 years is about $25M. So there you have it - good use of negotiating capital on a fixed contract?

Someone explain to me how this contract was not hugely slighted towards senior and old guys.

$43M?...Holy Sh!t.

I looked throught the bid pack. There is still some purity in there, but there are also a number of lines that start in EWR then go back and forth between LAX, BOS, and OAK. There is definately some repeat of the transit stuff. I didn't look very hard to see if the mid week DH's are still in there or not.

Popeye 08-05-2007 05:17 AM

With all this talk about VEBA, Age 60, and now this LOA, remember that we now have Agency Shop now, I feel a bit like Leonardo Dicaprio threatening to write that "strongly worded letter to the White Star Line as he is floating in the North Atlantic".

If we don't like the direction we are taking ourselves, we better find the next generation of knowledgeable and capable leaders to step in and right the ship. Perhaps we should consider the cost of professional negotiators who have no agenda except the one we pay them to have. This way we don't find out about VEBA after we have popped the champagne.

What about that lemon pepper tuna snack.....ouch!

Tuck: I don't want to get into a p!ssing contest with you at all, but please don't confuse age with seniority. One can be in the top half of the seniority list but if you are under 50 you got the same health care options and retirement benifits as a new hire. But over fifty no matter how many years of service you have(as long as you were 50 in 1999 and vested) you get VEBA and an age multipler for your "A" Fund. Seniority does not seem to matter much anymore here. So, I agree with your thought Tuck just wanted to clear up the seniority/age thing not being synonymic.
