Mountain Air Cargo question

I've flown for numerous freight airlines (poorly managed, supplemental 121). I don't care what they tell you in the interview or in ground school about how safety is #1 and how they don't violate far's, these type airlines always want you to fly broken planes back to base before writing it up. They'll never verbally say it, especially on a recorded line, but that's what they want you to do. Stay away from these types of airlines.

While MAC certainly has it's share of problems, I doubt you can name me one company that doesn't. But asking (strongly hinting) that you fly broken airplanes or bend rules to make the flight happen? I never saw that when I was there.

Sound advice, but I don't know which company you're talking about. Air Tahoma maybe, but I'm pretty sure they're tango uniform. Certainly not MAC. Solid company, good history. If I had an opportunity to fly out of my home with them again I would strongly consider going back.

I have never illegally flown broken airplanes for the sake of helping the company. Of course, the majority of mtc items can be written up and deferred on the ground and flown legally. However if the broken item is not deferrable, then it's hard broke and the company better launch the standby aircraft. For this reason, I was not very popular with mgmt at my company.
One of my last airlines (no longer operating) had the habit of self disclosing to the feds. If you were broken down somewhere, maintenance control would call the capt. on an unrecorded phone line and strongarm the crew into getting the plane back to base, then disclose to the feds that the crew flew a broken plane.
I would talk to as many pilots as you can who fly at this company and find out how they operate. Ask line pilots, not mgmt LOL.

I'm not specifically talking about MAC, Air Tahoma, or any other airline specifically, but most of these airlines are cut from the same cloth. You're right, all airlines have problems, but these freight airlines on the lower end of the scale have more problems than your FedEx's or UPS's, and they're more likely to want you to fly broken airplanes.

MAC will pressure to delay a write up, and they will pressure to bend the rest rules.
More than once have multiple airplanes been grounded in and out of country by the order of the FAA until parts and mechanic could arrive.
Speak up about maintenance too much and you'll have problems.
Same can be said about weather.

Interview is very straight forward, probably same as you have seen online. VOR/DME approach into KHKY on Desktop Simulator PCATD set up as King Air. Usually no technical questions, just HR related. I currently work for MAC as 208 Captain. Message for any other questions.

The posted mins for the van are 2000tt and 1500 PIC. How flexible are they with the PIC time? As far as I know, Fedex sets the mins so I understand if they can't waive about 500 hours of PIC.
