Default Almaty Kazakahstan

I have been offered a 2 month on 1 month off deal based in Almaty (Corp VIP Flying)

I have seen references to this location on this forum.

Any information on this location would be appreciated.

Thanks

First, I'm not an Almaty fan. At all. So if I'm less than enthusiastic you'll understand why.

The airport actually isn't too bad. A single, long runway with limited taxiway access. I've heard that they're in the process of building a full length, parallel taxiway. But I haven't been there for quite a while. The big challenge operating in and out of Almaty is terrain. The airport sits roughly 6-8 miles from a very steep, very tall range of mountains. Situational awareness is very important. You also have to make sure that you understand their local regs. We've had a couple of crews "detained" after seemingly inconsequential events. One was a below mins ATIS report vs. an above mins controller report. Turned out that the ATIS was controlling in that case. The weather can be challenging. When it goes down the tubes it tends to do so in a very large geographic area. Frequently, our alternates start to push mins. The local economy is oil based. The women like very tight clothes and there are a lot of real hammers. I can't say anything about what it would be like to live there. I just know that I wouldn't want to do that.

Good luck.

It cant be any worse than Biskek, and Biskek is a nice layover. You $ will go a long way in every respect.

Cheers,

Dirty and depressing old Soviet-style city. There is only a few good western hotels and they are VERY expensive. Two months in Almaty. No thanks.

Isn't there like a moderator here that can delete things like this?
