World Fall 2007 Hiring

Does anyone know what is going on with hiring at World?

C-17driver 09-05-2007 09:04 AM

Received an email on 21 Aug saying they had my resume and to rate my interest in world. No word since.

gasnhaul 09-05-2007 04:03 PM

The email I got from HR said unless the window is open (sound familiar?) they wouldn't accept apps. I guess you have to keep checking the website to see when they will reopen the app submittal window.

I met a guy the other day who is a World FO and he said he thought they would be hiring a class for the DC10 FO's in the near future. Course that is just what he seemed to think.

Worldguy 09-06-2007 03:02 PM

Do you know someone to recommend you? If you do, there is likely a position available in the fall. It is not "required" but is a REAL plus. I have not heard "officially" but personally believe that there will be more hiring in the fall.

Cheers,
WG

dutch747 09-06-2007 05:39 PM

I just interviewed and got hired at World. :D

I think they will be doing some hiring with 2 744's coming and 3 DC-10's. But they also lose 3 MD-11's.

Worldguy 09-07-2007 12:02 AM

Welcome aboard.

Cheers,

ERJ Driver 09-07-2007 08:13 PM

I interviewed and passed everything a few weeks ago, but no call so far... They said no news is good news but I am beginning to wonder. Am I really in the pool, or just a piece of flotsam/jetsam. I really want to work there, but I gotta be realistic and can't put all my eggs in 1 basket. Waiting any longer might jeopardize upward movement where I'm at too.

Hmmmmmmmmmm.

gasnhaul 09-08-2007 04:04 AM

Dutch and ERJ,

Did you guys apply through an opening in the website or use some other means? Seems like I've checked the website several times but never see any openings for pilots...

GNH

ERJ Driver 09-09-2007 12:09 AM

All I ever submitted was a resume

gasnhaul 09-09-2007 06:41 AM

ERJ,

So you just sent a resume in to the listed spot or did you have someone walk it in for you? The reason I'm asking is I sent an email to the HR address listed and was told unless there is a position listed on the hiring page they wouldn't take any resumes...

I got recommended by someone who works there, and when he was told by the Chief Pilot that there were openings coming soon, I sent my resume to the Chief Pilot.

HR told me in the interview that they had yet to cipher through all the resumes sent through HR. Where do you fly the herc out of? I flew slicks out of Pope and MC's out of Rhein Main back in the day.

gasnhaul 09-09-2007 01:02 PM

Dutch,

I'm in Fayette-Nam now. I'm new to the Herc though. I'm a crossflow guy who was flying the KC-135 prior.

Is there a different place to send a resume if you want it to go to the chief pilot? I still have about a year left so no huge hury, but I'd really like to work at World...the wife and I really like Atlanta.

Great airplane, sorry about the location though. Say hello to Normandy, Sicily and the two other drop zones I spent so much time over.

With a year to go, you won't get much attention. They and most other carriers aren't that efficient with keeping resumes and talent in mind for such a long period of time. So maybe give them a call, start talking to them, call them like once every other month. Then when your within three months of getting out. Start bugging them for an interview.

BTW: Yes there HQ is in Peachtree City near Atlanta, and yes they do a little Atlanta flying, but your home based. So it really doesn't matter where you live. Still World is a first class outfit for non-sched flying.

gasnhaul 09-10-2007 10:02 AM

Dutch,

Thanks for the head's up. Guess I didn't really realize World was home based. When I deployed last time I talked to some of the guys who were parked on the ramp with us. They told me the company flies you to the plane, so I should have known that...We still would like to live in Atlanta tho, so guess that's good either way.

Who do I need to call to start bugging? The HR folks or is there a pilot only hiring line or something along those lines? The email from HR I got said unless the website shows an opening they won't take the resume.

Thanks and take it easy,

GNH

Does it still seem like GAL will operate the 3 airlines separately? I have heard some folks say they prefer one seniority list. Given that there has never been a pretty merger of seniority lists, it seems that I would prefer that GAL 3 separate airlines....especially if I was a new-hire.

The mergers aren't alway pretty but they do add job security in the long haul.

The following article mentions Global Aero Logistics and World Airways.

"ATA still flying in red"

dutch747 09-10-2007 04:16 PM

I don't know his name. But do me a favor... Sometime after the 19th, PM me asking for the Asst. Chief Pilots Info and I'll give it to you.

I asked this very same question in the interview. They said that GAL was keeping the three carriers separate....for now.

gasnhaul 09-10-2007 04:39 PM

Wilco:D and thanks!

Worldguy 09-12-2007 02:57 PM

I believe we will remain separate, that is where the money is, and then sold off again. but that is my opinion.
GNH, if you really have aspirations for flying for a Non-sched, in particular WOA, PM me and I will give you what ever info I have. I am just a line guy but have seen a few administrations in the time i have been here.

dutch747, looking forward to working with you, you have a good attitude, and you must have a sense of humor or you wouldnt have applied.

Talked to the Chief Pilot today. All he would say is he needs to hire 35 more guys soon. I imagine there will be a November class but no official word as of yet.

Hang in there. Try the oral inflation tube if necessary.:D

longhauler 10-11-2007 07:05 PM

What do they pay in training? Do they pay for the hotel?

Hotel is paid for. Training pay is $1200 + $57.60 a day in Per Diem.

Per Diem is paid through out training, even if at home.

longhauler 10-12-2007 06:39 AM

I see they have a contractual pay raise in March of 08, what will that be? do they have any more contractual raises? How is the health insurance and what is the cost to the employee?

Itonically, I once flew in the cockpit with pilt who went by the name Dutch, and on a stop in ANU, he asked the kid visiting the cockpit that very question. That was my Pre-World days.

Good luck those of you hiring, WOA seems to be a good place for the pilots to work if you don;t mind seeing th world.

jonnyjetprop 10-13-2007 09:42 AM

Latest bid just came out. There are 38 empty slots. MD-11 FO, DC-10 FO and DC-10 SO.
