You can now bid for which recliner you want to replace the ones in the AOC. :D

Hmmmm....The solicitation of input prior to the making of a decision....novel thought.....Could there be a lesson here? ;)

Overnitefr8 09-19-2007 01:08 PM

Last recliners they bought were the worst. Maybe someone in mgmt had to sleep in one once.

Overnitefr8 09-19-2007 01:10 PM

Actually it is a mgmt ploy. Get our minds on the difficult decision of choosing a recliner, while they crank up the optimizer even more. On second thought they at least are giving us chance to vote on a reclliner that we'll need because we'll be so tired from the optimized lines. :(

UPS1856 09-19-2007 01:12 PM

You guys get recliners???:)

BoxFlyer 09-19-2007 01:39 PM

I'm not voting on any chair till I see the side LOA.

Maybe the union should take a poll ... and then decide what's best for us regardless of the outcome of the poll??

Why would you say something like that? Do you have any proof they have done this in the past? ;)

Busboy 09-19-2007 03:51 PM

When the poll is over...Will they publish the minority opinion?

FDXLAG 09-19-2007 03:56 PM

Can I change my vote?

NO, that's N-O.

You do not understand the complexities of the recliner situation in Washington. Other companies have not only completely lost their recliner privileges, but are now paying for their own recliners.

In order for FedEx pilots to not pay for our own recliners down the road, we must now vote for the lumpy recliners. This might not seem like the best course of action, especially because the company is tempting us with that lay-flat recliner right next to the lumpy mess, but trust us - the lumpy mess will provide more long-term benefits to the FedEx pilot group.

Just remember - you line pukes are NOT recliner experts. WE are the recliner experts, and we have decided that the lumpy non-flat recliner is best. In fact, there is not going to be a recliner vote - we will tally your votes but will then vote however we want.

Go ahead and vote, though, so you feel like you are making a difference.

FDXLAG 09-19-2007 09:34 PM

That is a little over the top.

What you needed to say was recliner B will improve our scope and make sure our reclining is the best in the industry. There is no specific language that says this but trust us it is true.

While the company has stated that they prefer Fedex MEC pilots do the reclining; recliner A could result (not right away) in non fedex mec pilots reclining in our sleep areas. So to avoid chinese or russky snoring in the middle of a hub turn make sure you cast your vote for recliner b.

BTW no bid until you approve recliner B.

pilot141 09-19-2007 09:52 PM

Meanwhile, recliner A is by FAR the better recliner and is preferred by more than 3/4 of the unwashed masses. But then again our vote is only symbolic - the MEC knows what is best for us!

Don't forget the Irish. I think they're still staying at the nicer Holiday Inn on Airways.

sparkmo 09-19-2007 10:24 PM

Do you have to be age 53 at the recliner signing to be able to use said recliner?

skeebo2 09-19-2007 10:24 PM

Good to see our top management work again. Lets review our brain trusts accomplishment:
#3 habit of Covey "First things first"...check
Dr. Deming's Quality Award nominee...check
Drucker like productivity....check
Porter (Harvard Business) competitive strategy...check
Oh that's right they didn't go to business school, there all butt buddys from the Academy. They're good at shoe shines, parked cars and now recliners.
Keep up the good work!

KnightFlyer 09-20-2007 05:06 AM

Six Sigma ... check

Check 6 09-20-2007 05:13 AM

I am willing to trust the MEC on this one. If they say recliner B will protect my reclining rights in the future who am I to disagree?

Plus, even though recliner B is lumpy and does not fully recline I a SURE the MEC did due diligence when making my choice for me. I saw a few MEC members at the Lazy Boy store sitting in really really nice chairs while the Co rep told them the piece of crap in the corner was better for tax and scope purposes.

And don't worry about your kids. The Co will provide a single leg (made in china) for a chair that may be built at our expense so your chitlins will have an opportunity to recline. If that does not work for you, you may provide any sort of recliner that you can afford or may homerecline your children...

I can't wait to vote...

99% for the new recliners...!

As soon as practicable after September 30, 2007, but not later than October 1, 2007, the Company will establish the "REBA" (Recliners for Employees' Beneficiary Association). The company will contribute to the REBA 51 cents of each paid credit hour for each pilot having a seniority list number (which would otherwise be paid to the pilot in cash) as the pilot's ongoing monthly contribution to the Post-Medicare Plan/REBA.

For each eligible active pilot having a seniority list number on September 25, 2007, who has attained at least age 53 before January 1, 2008, who is expected to meet the age and service requirements for coverage under the Retiree Group Health Plan as of his attainment of age 60 or older, and who retires on or after September 26, 2007, the Company will make delivery of one (1) FedEx sleep recliner to any address in the lower 48 states (no P.O. boxes).

fedupbusdriver 09-20-2007 06:16 AM

Hey Tony, which recliner do you think we should vote for?

Nitefrater 09-20-2007 06:39 AM

One more example of direct dealing...

Don't let them get away with it!

"My Recliner Committee speaks for me!"

Busboy 09-20-2007 06:54 AM

The "A" in REBA, stands for account, not association.

Gosh!! Here we go again...

READ THE LOA, PEOPLE!!!

Albief15 09-20-2007 07:11 AM

I personally don't think ANYONE should even sit in the new recliners until we has out all the details on the color and location of placement for them. I can't help but imagine, however, some dudes will just go ahead and break down and sit it them before all the work is finalized....

I don't think you need to worry about it -- the recliners will go too senior for you.

:D

Busboy 09-20-2007 07:26 AM

Do non-members get a vote on this?

purpledog 09-20-2007 07:45 AM

After Sep 30th, if an over 60 pilot sits in recliner A, a pilot younger than 60 must occupy recliner B for babysitting purposes. First post, glad to be part of the sarcasm.

Read 27.H.7, it's association.

v1 uh-oh 09-20-2007 08:51 AM

Will I be forced to sit in one for 30 days?

In case they don't we will inverse seniority pilots out of the sleep rooms to occupy the recliners. OK I'm done.

Have they measured the cubicles to see if the lay flat will fit? Why not just use an army cot?

This is very true..... Tony, you always have the big picture. My major concern though is if they buy the wrong (lumpy) recliners, it might go junior. We could all be looking at being STV'd into them on a nightly basis.

Check 6 09-20-2007 10:50 AM

What happens when the RIG - recliner improvement group - list the B recliner as a disputed recliner a "DR" Do we sleep on the floor instead....or talk loudly near the jerks who are sleeping in said recliners?

Come on folks...we need to support our RIG!

What does that have to do with it? CBA Sec. 27.h.7 talks about VEBA.

The REBA LOA is where we need to be concentrating!!

This is madness.

This is like Seinfeld. Four pages about absolutely nothing. ;)

because it's already been "decided for us" that the on-board "crew rest" accomodations (aka futon on the floor) on the MD11's will be "upgraded" with army cots.

it's a totally separate intiative from the REBA plan.

the only question is will they still provide us with the same fluffy overstuffed pillows and thick, warm blankets to go with the new cots?

the voting hasn't opened on the pillows & blankets side letter yet.....stay tuned....

(each RFO will have to carry his/her own purple rope to tie the cot down though - FAA requirements and all.)

I may be wrong, as I haven't actually seen the side letter, yet...

But, I think the exact language was "filthy" overstuffed pillows and thick "warn" blankets.

Not, "fluffy overstuffed pillows and thick, warm blankets".
