MD-10 and MD-11 pilot question

Greetings: Does Fedex utilize MD-10 pilots on the MD-11 as well? If so, how often do you go from one to the other?

Yes

We have the same type rating. It happens all the time.

Yep. Common type.

-10's fly domestically, as well as Anchorage and Puerto Rico sometimes.

MD-11's fly international, and heavier markets domestically, or just when they need them.

Other way around, FedEx uses MD-11 pilots on the MD-10!

I fly BOTH airplanes almost every month, occasionally both the same day ... there are differences but the varsity team can hack it :D

Going on 2 years in the MD, I have 2 landings in an MD-10. The first was my prog ride and the second my check ride on IOE. Trust me, I'm not complaining. :D

Although I guess I'm JV.

Doesn't sound like JV to me. Sounds more like you're ANC based and don't get to the lower 48 very much. Those MD-10's, especially the -10's were my least favorite jets I've ever flown. Perhaps it was because the MD-11 is such a great plane, that when you're stuck with a MD-10-10, it feels like you're flying an underpowered Cessna out of Denver International.

The MD-10-30 is the best aircraft in the fleet to fly. Good honest flight controls, tons of power - I really enjoy it.

Huck,

You're a lucky guy when you get to fly one of the -30's. How many of them are in the fleet now. When I was flying the Mad Dog, in 4 years I saw maybe 3 of them.

As of a couple weeks ago, 7 MD10-30s. There are still 13 DC10-30s to convert.
