Substitution and Disputed Pairings

I just got removed from a HNL - SYD etc. 65 hour trip and put into SUB status (legality) for 12 days ( I know -- sucks to be me). Can I be SUB'd into a disputed pairing (314)? I'd take OTP, but making up 65 hours looks like it would be extremely difficult to do. Thanks

From the SIG committee web page:

...As an important Contractual right: Disputed pairings should not be assigned to any crewmember but a Reserve pilot involuntarily...

https://crewroom.alpa.org/FDX/Deskto...cumentID=39409

Don't quote me on this...But, I think you can refuse a disputed pairing and still have trip guarantee.

Good luck.

I sure hope so. If that's the case, this may not be too bad of a deal after all.

I think you are screwed. I believe, but again call the union, you can be tagged with it legally. It is a big grey area and has been talked about with the union guys before. Good luck

Unfortunately, they CAN assign you a Disputed pairing in SUB. I would agree that taking OTP to avoid a 6 hour DP is really taking one for the team. I can't imagine anyone giving you grief for flying a dispute in your situation. If it was a one day trip or even a few days of SUB I would hope guys would choose OTP rather than fly the dispute.

Just another benefit to our SUB policy !

Hey Tony C,

What the word on this?

Overnitefr8 10-05-2007 08:51 AM

Yes they can sub you with a DP. Went through this last year. Had 30 CH of SUB and the gave me a 6 CH DP the first day. Called the union on it. When you are in SUB you are essentially on Reserve.

You're right, but that is what the union contract guy said. Perhaps that is something we need to have specifically written into the contract next time.

The not flying DP's in SUB part, not the Total BULL****! part.;)
