Scabbing to bid an FDA
#11
We need to put this LOA thing behind us....It's done. Think about who you want as a block rep, or how to help the SIG. Start writing down and sending in ideas for openers to your rep. Let them know what you want. All this talk about scabs for bidding a FDA after the LOA passed is just plain stupid. Look at it this way.....we could have 5 year widebody captains out there.....Good Luck.

I think all of our MEC reps should do a 3 year tour there. Afterall, they all insured us, "it is a great deal."

The union and the company got what they wanted. They both said vote "yes" and don't bid it if you don't want to go.
Well, the pilots voted yes and now it looks like we aren't bidding it either. Instead of being upset about what is done, just smile and remember the phrase: "Be careful what you wish for." Personally, I chuckle when I see that three-quarters of the F/O slots in HKG appear to be going unfilled. That's what we said was going to happen, but they didn't listen.
I realize what that means with respect to involuntary STV, but that is going to be quite a mess to implement. They are going to have to run 33 pilots a month through international ground school, may give them route checks, and get them into position and get them back to the states. That doesn't seem to leave a lot of time for them to actually operate trips.
The ball is back in their court.

Let's see...... Management is uneasy about VERY junior pilots in the left seat, new hires in the right and more STV than planned. The bean counters are screaming about it costing more than their PLAN. Pilots are PO'd.(what's new?) What a soap opera! I suspect more surprises are in store. The Chinese curse "May you live in interesting times" comes to mind. Hopefully fewer yet will bid this deal as the practice bids evolve.

In closing I will meekly point out that the same person that posted this:

Gosh... what's a good union member to do?

The people who voted YES on the LOA, and then bid an FDA, are scabs.
Thanks alot, jerks. DPs are now fair game.

I just love it when one pilot gets upset with another pilot and then inappropriately calls him a scab. That is pure trailer park ignorance at its very best.
While I understand your feelings and share your frustration. Other pilots are indeed allowed to have their own opinion and vote their own mind. When you disagree with someone, simply disagree - don't become disagreeable.
While I agree the FDA LOA could have been much improved. It did pass, for better or worse, by popular vote.
That is called democracy in action.
Have another drink....and next time.......relax.

Scabs? No. Unthinking of those overseas who want to stay there, Yes. I'm not real happy with them, but the system in place encourages that type of behavior.
At least those that voted YES who bid it are putting their money where their mouth is. They aren't "actively" trying to scr$w anyone. They have integrity.
We should be extra "happy" with those who voted YES and brag about how they are too senior to be STV'd and will never, ever bid it because they don't have to. When you ask them a couple of questions they admit it's not a good enough deal to attract them. Then they clam up and can't talk anymore when you ask them, "Why on earth did you vote for it if it's such a bad deal?" These are the bozos who don't care if newhires go without any extra stipend to keep them from panhandling for food.
