Default Disappearing Yen

So, about halfway through another intra-asia leg this week, the captain turns to me and says, "Hey, I forgot to tell you!! I think those F*&^ckers ripped me off at Subic during the hub turn!"

"Who, the Airbus guys?" I says.

"No, you dumb ass. The local guys. The OTHER local guys. You know, the ramp guys."

"Whaat? No way", I says. "How much?"

"Few hundred bucks worth of Yen and some HK gonks."

"That sucks", says I. I'm thinking, you probably just left it on the nightstand, ya senile old bastard.

Couple days later, after yet another Subic hub turn, I'm digging through my man purse for the cab tip...nothin'. They even took my damn rupees. I know I didn't leave those on the nightstand. I ain't been to Delhi in months, and I know I had some, I checked after el capitan told me his sob story.

Who knows who actually took it. Could have been the maid at the hotel I guess, but the Subic turn was the common theme and I've heard of guys having problems there in the past.

Anyone else had a similar experience lately out that way?

P.S. And I wasn't flying with Capt. Klepto.

Probably worth sending a note to Billy Wilson...they do seem to try to keep pretty good SA on trouble areas...

This isn't the first time I've heard this story. I wonder if the "locals" are ****ed off that we'll be leaving (for China hub) soon and are trying to pad their "B fund"?

It's been a problem for some time now but the "security manager" as Subic is worthless.

Had it happen too so I hand carry my flight bag to ops now. As a culture they don't consider it really stealing as you have more than they do.

That is probably because he is getting 20% of the Take! "Sorry Sir"

The cultural oddities of the Philippines could be worthy of a full two-hour Seinfeld stand up routine.

Come to think of it, Lewis Black would probably be better.

Just saw this in the news this morning. I'm not trying to imply anything, but...have you woke up with white foam in your mouth lately?

HONG KONG: Two Americans found dead in a Hong Kong luxury hotel might have ingested the date rape drug Rohypnol, a newspaper reported Sunday, citing police.

The men — whom police identified by single names only, Paul and Richard aged 45 and 51 — were found dead in a room at the Grand Hyatt hotel on Friday afternoon.

The Sunday Morning Post, citing unnamed police sources, said the two men were found with white froth coming from their mouth.

The report said the case may have been an attempted robbery that went wrong involving the use of "date rape" drug flunitrazepam — a sedative sold as Rohypnol.

Police refused to confirm whether the two men were seen returning to the hotel with two women, saying "all options" were being considered, the paper reported.

Hong Kong police declined to confirm the report Sunday, saying more toxicology tests were needed.

"A post-mortem examination failed to find out the cause of their deaths, so more toxicology tests are being carried out," said a police spokeswoman who requested her name not be used due to policy.

The case was still classified as a "dead body found," she added.

In recent years, there has been a rash of cases reported to police in which men who went out in Hong Kong's lively nightlife district Wan Chai woke up the next morning apparently robbed — and with no recollection of what happened.

Rohypnol, commonly known as a date-rape drug, has sedative and hypnotic effects. People attacked, robbed or raped while under its influence can regain their senses with no memory of the assault.

Dale Kreschler, press officer for the U.S. Consulate in Hong Kong, said he could not comment on the case due to privacy concerns.
