Cargo internships? Are there any?
Im an incoming college freshman to FIT for aviation management with flight. I know its a long way off, but if anybody had to chose, where would you go for an internship, and are do the cargo guys offer any? Also, are there any great summer flying jobs that anyone can think of in the Southeast to build up some hours? Thanks

UPS offers internships
Yes, UPS has a continuous flow of college interns. They primarily work in the training center, organizing training materials and developing powerpoint training slideshows. They also conduct tours in the Flight Simulators for prospective customers (translated... you'll get plenty of time in a Level D simulator). A few have even come back to UPS, after leaving to get their flight time somewhere else, and are now flying for us. Talk to a UPS recruiter at the next job fair, or go though the normal hiring channels. If you're sharp on MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc...) you should have a good chance at getting on. Good luck

Would it help to have UPS CA walk in my application?

I did in an internship with Evergreen Airlines a very short time ago, in their Flight Operations department. I learned a tremendous amount in the three months that I was there. The location was McMinnville, Oregon, which is where the Evergreen HQs are located. McMinnville was interesting in a weird way to say the least. I had an absolute blast working at Evergreen. I met and befriended the Chief Pilots, the Chief Flight Engineer, and the Director of Operations (basically the people who interview pilot applicants).
Always trying to network

I had a room mate at the crash pad I owned in MEM for a couple years who had matriculated at ER in AZ. Ken came to FredEx for a few months between Jr & Sr year and worked behind the desk in Ops.
He impressed the managers during his stint -didn‘t mind the heat and humidity of the MEM summer; so he took the entry level job that was offered after he graduated. I guess he liked BBQ <g>
The last I saw him, he had been promoted several times and had moved to Ops in IND. The last I heard, he was in Sr. Management there. So, Internships are good for everyone concerned.
My daughters both had Internships their senior years (Villanova=COMCAST) & (USC=20 Century Fox) and were both offered positions upon graduation. The youngest took the job at Fox -and hated it .. the full time position was nothing like the stuff they had her doing as an Intern. But, all in all, a good experience for both.
