Default Calling in sick heads up

Just found out the hard way that if you don't call in well 3 days prior to a trip with TAFB> 120hrs, they pull your trip.

The only thing I remember seeing is "you must call in well prior to 9am LBT the day before the trip..."

I called the scheduler and he put me back on it once I went off sick. He couldn't reference that rule from anyplace. Anyone ever experience this?

Sick calls, and timing CBA 14.B.2.b

Getting back on the same trip CBA 14.B.3

You're lucky there wasn't enough time for them to "assign" your trip to a rsv.
Also, you might want to check your pay status for the trip. You may be in a makeup sick situation, which changes some things (overage), not sure though.

Thanks for the references. I checked everything and it's all back to normal. Lucky indeed.

FYI for those on 24hr RES. The 1 in 7 requirement goes away AS WELL AS the 24hr notification requirement.

Did you mean, "That when you call in well on R24 ....."?

If so, thanks for the heads up....that could be a painful lesson to learn the hard way.

No, I think he means if you are sick for more than 24hrs, Scheds assumes your 1 in 7 is no longer necesary. You have been free from duty for one day in seven.

OK, but the tough part would be the elimination of their requirement to give you 24hrs notice --- is this true?

If so, I guess you just bought a 24hr Memphis reserve slot until this use you.

While sick on 24hr reserve, the 1 in 7 is void basically. The 24hr notice of a trip assignment is also void...both according to contract enforcement. Call them yourself.

Thanks again for that tidbit.

Sounds like you'd actually have to jumpseat in and then call in well just to cover yourself.

However, if scheduling didn't use someone within a day of them calling in sick, I don't know how they could justify not giving a pilot 24 hrs notice after that.

Thanks again.

Didn't think you could jumpseat while listed as "sick"...can you?
