No one ever said the policy in place is "fair". It is what it is. I make no apology for it, but then again, I'm not looking for a job. As for "fighter guys" getting recommendations from "guys they've flown with", it's actually very easy, because, when someone flies in a formation flight with someone else, both the wingman as well as the leader have to rely on each other, and in an environment where you can't just "reach out and slap a hand" or control the flight by not allowing the other guy to touch the controls. Actually, you get to know the other guy rather well, as well as observing his airmanship and interpersonal skills.

Last time I checked 95% of our trips were hard time trips with 17 hour layovers standard. Not sure where you are finding time to get hung over. "Long layovers" seem to be part of the good ole' days gone bye-bye.

Not on the Boeing or even the Bus...

Hard time is when your block time is your credit. I'm junior and avoid those monstrosities in the Boeing.

BTW, Very nice spreadsheet. I find it helpful.

I would like to add to it. Even though age 60 legislation will affect retirements, it will not eliminate them. Some older SO's are between 62-65 now. I think a few of those will retire by 2010. Some Captains will retire between 60-62. Or they will drop so many trips and call in sick enough the company will wish they were retired. The company will need a higher ratio just to fly the bid pack.

How many will retire between now and 2010? Who knows. I think about 150. Could be 450. With age 60 gone, it could be as low as 50 (medicals if nothing else).

I can drink a whole Hennesy fifth, some people call that a problem, I call it a gift.
