UPS Question or Rumor Control about DHL....
i love these wild a$$ rumors that can't be verified by snopes.com. anyway, have any UPS folks heard this one?
Dear Fellow Members:
> >
> > UPS Management has approached the IPA to consider giving all DHL pilots priority preferential interviews for the expansion of the United States domiciles in order to affect the core business of DHL Worldwide in the United States. We all know the DHL has struggled in the United States for many years and the purchase and integration of Airborne Express has resulted in a struggling DHL.
> >
> > UPS feels that the current DHL pilot ACMI contract situation in the United States is a "Time Bomb" that can be easily used as a final blow to the smaller DHL market and that preferential hiring U.S. DHL pilots will enable UPS to eradicate DHL worldwide for the U.S markets.
> >
> > The IPA feels that we should all welcome our fellow pilots in light of this situation and show our unity because it will result in UPS's domination of the U.S market and the and of DHL as a competitor in the United States.
> >
> > We will have a Union meetings concerning these developments this week at the IPA conference center on 3607 Fern Valley Rd. from December 11th through December 14th at 1am to 3am and catering from Vesuvius be provided.
> >
> > We hope to see 100% of you out there and I will be available all week for any questions.

Huh?
Uh, no.
What would UPS do, hire 50 or so of them (a number R. Barr has floated for new hire numbers in '08 w/ implementation of age 65) and 'paralyze' DHL's ability to operate? What's more, DHL proper uses ACMI lift in the US...so, which airline would UPS supposedly target? ABX, Astar? And then who? All the leftover, additional ACMI lift floating around?
Not likely...

maddog11f;
thanks for the reply. someone posted it in a crew room and like i said, there was no way to verify its authenticity without throwing it out here for your input. i guess the premise was that dhl would fold up its usa operations and those acmi carriers would be on the streets. a lot of supposition.......

I spoke directly with the IPA Secretary last night regarding this very issue... he says that the letter regarding UPS management asking IPA to give DHL pilots hiring preference is absolutely FALSE. In fact, his last name isn't even spelled correctly in the letter and he doesn't go by Dick!

"But did he expand on why no EB meeting minutes have been posted on the IPA web-site since August 2007? He is the IPA Secretary isn’t he or is that FALSE too? What does he do all day in his office?"
I didn't ask him about that. Why don't you call him directly and personally ask him? Report back.
