But that was close!........Just kidding, getting personal experiences like this out to everyone helps us all. (sometimes entertains us)
Acutally when you are on a STBY you are like a newbie in Prison.
They pretty much can do almost anything to you within the duty limitations.
They only need to assign you a flight within the actual duty period. So the first flught assignment was legal and it was cancelled, the second flight was also legal as long as it was assigned inside your STBY period. This is why Crew skeds will not allow (generally) you to pick up or trip trade within 24 hours of a stby because they don't know what will happen to you and they want to limit trip cpnflicts and substitution.
