I have NEVER missed a Christmas at home (except for the military). That said, I had to fly some REALLY UGLY "Decembers" to be able to say that, and maybe two of those Xmas's were home during a layover, but that counts as "home" in my book.

Happy Holiday's to all, especially if you're away from the family. Missing holidays and special events is undoubtedly the worst part of our chosen profession.

Default Thanks

I'm home for Christmas thanks to some truly unselfish guys who don't really need the holiday off, so they bid to fly, in order to let some of us junior types have the time with our families. Thanks much!!! I won't forget it.

On the off chance that any FedEx pilot is on layover in BDL on Christmas day, and you're interested in joining my wife and I and some of my racquetball friends for a Chinese dinner, around 6 P.M., please PM me and I'll pick you and your crew up. This has been a tradition at our house for a number of years, and for the past few, we've invited friends. Everyone loves it. You're more than welcome to come.

I will miss my first Christmas this year. Should be over Khazakstan, GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD!

Cheers to all who move the freight and to those that are home, count your blessings!

JJ,

If you keep doing nice stuff like that, I'm going to have to take back HALF of the stuff I've been saying about you. Nice gesture!

MM,

I've been doing stuff like that for years now. Anyone on layover at BDL is always welcome in our home. A while ago, I had picked up a friend at the layover hotel, who was an Airbus captain and his F/O, whom I didn't know. Took them and my wife out for Mexican food. After that we brought them home for a while and while there, the First Officer, having seen my old flight helmet on a shelf in our library, mentioned that he'd never gotten to keep his and missed having one. I went to the basement and got him my earlier helmet and gave it to him. He loved it, and couldn't thank me enough. I loved it because I didn't know how to sell stuff on Ebay. A total win-win situation.
